Football contains many curiosities and unanswerable questions. Unfortunately for clubs and their fans, a great deal of them revolve around referees and their decisions. Many pundits and supporters questioned why Diogo Jota was awarded a penalty in Liverpool’s recent win at Crystal Palace, while similar numbers failed to understand how Everton were not awarded one when Manchester City won 1-0 at Goodison Park last month. However, there’s one issue which has annoyed Jurgen Klopp and it regards the level of protection Mohamed Salah receives from match officials.
Jurgen Klopp said: “There is a statistic, I am not exactly sure who had it, but the statistic is that Mo is the one player who is fouled the least compared to other strikers. It is absolutely crazy how low the number of fouls is against him when the referee doesn’t whistle. So he has constant contact [from defenders] and is going down all the time, having to get up again, stuff like this.”
