The Newcastle Foodbank, a charity dedicated to combating hunger and alleviating poverty in the city, is set to hold collections outside St James’ Park during Sam Fender’s three scheduled performances in June. This initiative continues the strong relationship between the charity and the popular singer-songwriter, known for his support of the foodbank during previous events at the Newcastle United ground. In 2023, Fender’s concerts at the venue drew over 100,000 fans and generated more than £3,000 in donations to aid the charity’s efforts.
John McCorry, Newcastle Foodbank’s chief executive, said: “We are incredibly grateful for our connection with Sam and for this opportunity to raise awareness about the needs in our city. There are however some plush VIP packages still available, if anyone has a spare £284-£520 that is. No doubt the crowds will be in for a treat when Fender, who brought out third album People Watching earlier this year, takes to the stage.”
John added: “Our charity is always grateful for the kindness and generosity of the people in our city. It is with their support that we can continue to help our neighbours through difficult times.”
Fender’s commitment to supporting the Newcastle Foodbank is well-documented. He has previously visited the facility, engaged with volunteers, and assisted in packing food parcels. The charity considers his ongoing support invaluable in raising awareness and funds to address the city’s pressing needs. Recently, Fender was honored with the Freedom of the Borough of North Tyneside, recognizing his role as a cultural ambassador for the region. This accolade highlights his influence beyond music, underscoring his dedication to community causes.
The upcoming concerts at St James’ Park promise to be a significant event for both fans and the charity. With Fender’s latest album, “People Watching,” released earlier this year, attendees can expect an exciting performance. The event also offers VIP packages, with proceeds further supporting the foodbank’s mission. As the charity prepares for these concerts, it remains hopeful that the generosity of the attendees will continue to bolster its efforts in providing essential support to those in need.
