Jeremie Frimpong
Liverpool has secured the services of Dutch full-back Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, following the activation of his release clause earlier this month. The 24-year-old has committed to a five-year contract with the Reds, joining fellow Dutchmen Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch, and manager Arne Slot at Anfield. Frimpong has already been briefed on what to expect at the home of the Premier League champions by his international and now club teammate, Virgil van Dijk.
Jeremie Frimpong said: “He’s a big character, captain. He told me good things.”
Frimpong’s journey has been marked by success since leaving Manchester City in 2019 due to limited first-team opportunities. He achieved a domestic treble with Celtic and played a pivotal role in Bayer Leverkusen’s historic Bundesliga title win. Now, at Anfield, Frimpong is eager to add more silverware to his collection, with a particular focus on the Premier League.
Jeremie Frimpong said: “For me, everywhere I’ve been I’ve always won things. It’s always been the league, cups and the league, so I’ve always won trebles. So yes, I want to win trebles, I want to win trophies – I play football to win trophies. I want to win as many trophies as possible.”
Frimpong’s final duties with the Dutch national team in their upcoming World Cup qualifiers will precede his integration into the Liverpool squad on July 8 at the AXA Training Centre. The full-back expressed his excitement about joining a team filled with world-class talent, particularly highlighting his anticipation of playing alongside Mohamed Salah.
Jeremie Frimpong said: “Playing with world-class players as a footballer is a great feeling, it’s a privilege, like, ‘I’m going to be next to Mo Salah.’ Not just him, the whole Liverpool squad. Just Liverpool in general, this is a privilege, a blessing that I can be part of it. I’m excited for these things, 100 per cent.”
Frimpong’s addition to Liverpool is expected to bolster their defensive options while adding an attacking edge from the flanks. His ambition and previous success at other clubs suggest he could play a crucial role in Liverpool’s pursuit of domestic and international titles.
