Max Kinsey
AFC Bournemouth’s development squad, captained by Max Kinsey, concluded their season with a narrow 3-2 defeat against Brentford in the final. The team reached this stage following an impressive 15-game unbeaten run, including 14 consecutive victories. Despite the loss, Kinsey expressed immense pride in the team’s journey and performance throughout the season.
Max Kinsey said: “I feel like we take everything that we do off the pitch, on the training ground, onto the field here, like the culture, the character of the boys. We left that out there all tonight. And as captain of this group, I’m so proud of the boys. So proud of everything they’ve done, in particular, the past two, three months has been unbelievable experience. I feel like this game, regardless of the result, the performances we put in, leaves us all in a really good place going into next season.”
The development squad’s success was not only reflected in their unbeaten streak but also in the opportunities afforded to players within the first team. Under the guidance of manager Andoni Iraola, who faced an injury-hit season, several development squad players, including Ben Winterburn, Zaine Silcott-Duberry, and Remy Rees-Dottin, were called up to contribute at the senior level.
Reflecting on the season’s challenges and triumphs, Kinsey highlighted the invaluable experience gained by the squad and the impact of first-team opportunities.
Max Kinsey said: “I feel like every season has its ups and downs. That’s natural for everyone. I’m sure Brentford have lost a lot of games as well as us, but to go 14 games unbeaten like we have to get to this stage is pretty unheard of. We’re such a close-knit group that everyone fits back in. When you go up there, the level’s so high. We definitely have raised the quality of the group so far. And over the past two, three months, I feel like it’s been unbelievable what we’ve done.”
The development squad’s journey this season has been marked by resilience and growth, setting a solid foundation for future success. The experiences gained, both on and off the pitch, have equipped the players with the skills and confidence needed to excel in the coming season. As the team looks ahead, the lessons learned and the bonds formed promise to propel them to new heights.
