Pep Guardiola
Manchester City is actively working to revamp its backroom staff following the departure of three of Pep Guardiola’s assistants. This significant reshuffle comes at a crucial time as the team prepares for their upcoming summer tournament in the United States. Alongside player acquisitions, the club is prioritizing the recruitment of new coaching staff to support Guardiola’s ambitions for the new season.
RB Salzburg said: “After some very constructive and positive discussions in recent days, we have terminated the contract with our former coach Pepijn Lijnders by mutual agreement. We would like to thank Pep once again for his hard work during his time with us and wish him all the very best for his future in football!”
Pep Guardiola said: “The only position that the manager has to choose is his assistant coach. Maybe there are discussions about the players that the club needs to buy and the club takes a decision in front of you and you have to accept it. But the guy you work with? He has to be so close. You have to decide. It cannot be imposed from anyone else. I do not want someone who is just going to agree with everything. I need a guy to push me, to challenge me intellectually. I need guys close to me who can help me to be a better manager for our players and make me see things that I am not able to see.”
The club’s efforts to strengthen its coaching team include the potential appointment of Pep Lijnders, formerly an assistant to Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. Lijnders is reportedly on the verge of joining City after RB Salzburg agreed to release him from his contract. This move is part of a broader strategy to bring in experienced personnel who can provide fresh perspectives and challenge Guardiola’s methods.
Additionally, Manchester City is looking to appoint Liverpool analyst James French, who has been instrumental in Liverpool’s success over the years, contributing to their Premier League and Champions League victories. French’s expertise in analysis is expected to be a valuable asset to City’s strategic planning and match preparations.
With the Club World Cup scheduled to begin on June 18, Manchester City aims to have its new coaching and playing staff in place before heading to the US. The club’s management is keen to ensure that the team is well-prepared and cohesive as they embark on the new season, seeking to build on their previous successes.
