Southampton Fans St Mary Stadium
Southampton supporters are eager to reconnect with their team following a challenging season in the Premier League, which saw the club relegated to the Championship. The Saints managed only two wins throughout the campaign, leaving fans with little to celebrate. In his inaugural interview with the club, newly appointed manager Will Still expressed his commitment to restoring the bond with the loyal fanbase.
Will Still said: “I’ve watched a huge number of games from the season and the support has never stopped. Hopefully, we can get everyone on board and be open, honest people who want to win games of football. Southampton is the right place for that to happen.”
Will Still added: “If supporters can understand and see what we are trying to do, and they can identify with the team on the pitch, they can really get behind us. Southampton has that fanbase. It’s very loyal and intense when it needs to be, and it understands where the team is at. As much as they can get behind us, the better. And as many games as we can win together, because they have an impact on results as well, then the better it is for everyone.”
The 32-year-old Belgian-born English coach, who has signed a three-year contract with Southampton, was warmly welcomed by fans during his first visit to St Mary’s Stadium. Despite the team’s struggles, including a solitary home victory against Everton and conceding 47 goals at home, Still remains optimistic about the future. He highlighted the importance of transparency and honesty with supporters to foster a sense of unity and purpose.
Southampton’s average home attendance remained robust, dipping below 30,000 on only two occasions during the 2024/25 season, even as the team finished with a mere 12 points. Still is determined to leverage this unwavering support to propel the Saints back to the Premier League. He emphasized that a strong relationship with the fans could be pivotal in achieving promotion at the first attempt.
The club has announced that Still’s first fixture at St Mary’s will be a pre-season friendly against Brighton on Saturday, August 2. Additional pre-season matches are expected to be confirmed soon, providing an opportunity for the team to regroup and strategize for the upcoming Championship campaign.
