Mason Greenwood has revealed he would turn to Manchester United’s all-time record goalscorer Wayne Rooney, if he was to ask any former player for some advice. Rooney scored 253 goals in 559 appearances for the club over 13 seasons, playing a crucial part in the club’s success under Sir Alex Ferguson — winning five league titles and a Champions League in that time. Greenwood has made a promising start to his own United career and the 19-year-old could become a regular fixture in the squad for many years to come.
The teenager took part in United’s latest fan Q&A session on their official website and was asked: “If you could ask any ex-player any question to help you develop, what would it be and to whom?”
Mason Greenwood replied: “The question I’d probably go to with is Wayne Rooney. He’s done it all and is the leading scorer. I’d probably just ask him, like not how he played because you can watch how he played, but any tips on how you can get in between defenders and how you can anticipate the game a bit more. Obviously, he scored hundreds and hundreds of goals for United. That would be the little question I would ask him.”
United career is back in training for United as they prepare for the upcoming season. The teenager could come face to face with United’s leading marksman in their first pre-season friendly when the Red Devils face Derby on Sunday, at 1pm.
