Carlo Ancelotti has described the work of the director of football Marcel Brands as “fantastic” and insists all of Everton’s signing this window have been mutual decisions. The Blues have moved away from the policy put in place by Brands to only invest significant sums in players aged 20-25/26 by adding the experienced Allan, James Rodriguez and Abdoulaye Doucoure. Ancelotti has worked with Allan and Rodriguez before and asked the club to back his judgement and deliver a reunion with the pair. Ancelotti spoke before the window of the “beautiful relationship” that exists between him and Brands, whose three-year contract ends next summer, and spoke glowingly about him as the Blues look to complete their final piece of business by bringing in Godfrey.
Carlo Ancelotti said “I don’t know how long his contract is honestly. What can I say? He is doing a fantastic job and he has done a fantastic job. I have a fantastic relationship with him, the board still has a fantastic relationship with him, if he has to renew the contract I don’t know. What can I say? The job that he is doing is really good. Yeah, as I said before the transfer window we had the discussion about the new players and we were totally agreed to sign these players, I would not force a club or a director to sign a player that they don’t like. The players that arrived were players that had a desire to come and every one of us was agreed to sign them.”
