Manchester City Secures 31m Transfer of Algerian Star Rayan Ait-Nouri

Rayan Aït-Nouri

Manchester City has completed the signing of 24-year-old Algerian international Rayan Ait-Nouri, marking a significant addition to their squad this summer. The left-back has committed to a five-year contract with the Citizens, becoming their first specialist in the position since Benjamin Mendy’s departure. Ait-Nouri’s arrival is expected to bolster the team’s defensive options, following his impressive tenure with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Rayan Ait-Nouri said: “I am incredibly happy and honoured to have joined Manchester City. I am also so excited about working with and learning from Pep (Guardiola) and his coaching team and getting to train and play alongside such a world-class group of players. I’m young and I came here to improve a lot. I need to learn and improve my football for sure – it’s why I chose this big challenge. I know I can improve my football and being in these kind of conditions with this team and this manager, for sure I will improve my football.”

Viana said: “He already has extensive Premier League experience and has also demonstrated his quality at international level with Algeria. We feel sure that he will be an excellent addition to our squad and that working alongside Pep and his coaching staff will help develop his game even further. And at just 24 he is someone we feel sure will help us in our objective to bring more success to the club.”

Ait-Nouri’s journey with Wolves began with an initial loan from Angers, which culminated in a permanent move in 2021 for £14.9m. His development at Wolves has been noteworthy, and his transition to Manchester City signifies a step up in his career, providing him the platform to refine his skills under the guidance of Pep Guardiola. Ait-Nouri is expected to fill the left-back role, a position that has seen several players, including Oleksandr Zinchenko and Joao Cancelo, since Mendy’s exit.

The club’s sporting director, Viana, expressed confidence in Ait-Nouri’s ability to thrive at Manchester City, emphasizing his Premier League experience and international prowess. The club anticipates that Ait-Nouri’s addition will not only enhance their defensive lineup but also contribute to their long-term success objectives.

In a separate development, veteran goalkeeper Scott Carson will depart Manchester City at the end of his contract this summer. Despite limited first-team appearances, Carson has been a part of a successful era for the club, securing 12 trophies, including the prestigious Champions League in 2023.
