Remarkably, this was only the second goal Haaland had directly scored from a cross this campaign. Bernardo Silva said “We have the big guy up front, so these type of crosses, these type of actions inside the box that is his main quality. He’s there, he’s hungry to score more and more. Today he helped us win the game and we are very happy to have him in our team, as you can imagine.”
Reflecting on City’s recent narrow margin victories,
Bernardo Silva said “It was a tough game, a tough game where we had to run a lot. We scored early, which we thought would make the game a little bit easier, but it didn’t. Even when we had our chances to end the game with a second or third goal, we didn’t do that. We made it more difficult for us. Credit to Southampton, they made it difficult for us. Their patterns are very good… they deserve a lot more [points] than what they’ve got in the Premier League [so far].”
This win over Southampton marked City’s third consecutive league victory by a single goal, following previous narrow wins against Fulham and Wolves earlier in the month. Bernardo Silva emphasized the challenges faced, highlighting the tough competition presented by the league’s teams.
