Jurgen Klopp has challenged his Liverpool side to maintain their form in the final weeks of the season as they hunt down Aston Villa, Brighton and Tottenham in the European positions. The Reds have struggled to meet their own expectations this season, winning just 13 times while losing nine of their 30 games. Currently eighth, their 6-1 win over Leeds United on Monday may have given them a glimmer of hope of finishing within the top six. With eight games left to play, Klopp has challenged his players to give their all in the final weeks as they look to end the campaign on a high note. Two points separates the Reds from the Seagulls, while Villa are three points clear of them in sixth spot.
Jurgen Klopp said: “The challenge now is to build on this. I don’t know where it will lead to. It’s super important what happens from now on because if it goes on, there will be a next season. I have no clue where we will end up this season, it depends massively on other teams around us who can win all their games. We can’t do much about that. But what’s important now is what we showed in the second half against Arsenal. That could have gone either way but we reacted well and got the point which we deserved at least and tonight, super important that we really understand what we got here. We played a really bad season but some things are not really to explain and some definitely are and are not acceptable. We have to understand what is possible. I just want us to play top football and win games and we will see where we end up.”
