John Stones does not think it is a bad thing that he and his Manchester City teammates will return to club duty so soon after the World Cup. Stones doesn’t hold the same opinion, however, and thinks that the quick turnaround after the tournament could actually benefit players rather than hinder them.
John Stones said: “Yeah, I think the consistency of it and sometimes the shorter the break is better for us if we keep going and I think it’ll be more mentally, the switch from whatever’s happened (at the World Cup) to coming back to club football.
Stones – along with Erling Haaland and Stefan Ortega – was speaking after meeting up with Nissan Formula E driver Norman Nato and taking him on in a Batak Wall reaction test. Haaland and Ortega won’t be at the World Cup, and Stones hopes they and other teammates not going to Qatar use their break wisely.
John Stones said: “I hope [they will be] relaxing a little bit, for the first part anyway. Making sure their bodies are alright and whatever knocks and things they’ve hurt are recovered. And then knowing them and their mentality, it’ll just be focusing on getting back with the team and getting back playing. Getting better at what they can, because I’ve seen it already in this short period of time before the World Cup, what they do off the pitch and I’m sure they’ll just want to keep improving.”
Stones and England will get their World Cup campaign underway with a group stage clash with Iran on Monday 21st November at 1pm GMT.
