Ian Wright and Alan Shearer have scored some of the most amazing goals during their playing careers but former strikers and now TV pundits have both describe Andros Townsend’s volley for Crystal Palace against Manchester City in 2018 as one of the best goals they have seen in the premier league history.
Townsend’s stunning strike for Palace at the Etihad Stadium in a 3-2 win for the Eagles against Manchester City in December 2018 was praised by both the players.
Ian Wright said “Andros Townsend’s volley, for it to come to him like he did, for it to fly in the net like it did, if it hadn’t gone in, it would have hurt someone in the crowd, That was the sweetest strike I think I have ever seen, one of the best executed volleys I have ever seen. To come to him on that trajectory and fly in on that trajectory, it was the sweetest strike I think you will ever see. It is a pure strike and it is the best volley I have ever seen.”
Alan Shearer said “You see so many volleys in this list, whether it is Thierry Henry or Paulo Di Canio, You try these things in training and every now and again, you catch one sweet, but that volley was one of the sweetest things you will see, off the middle of the boot, it was perfect.”
