The Villa head coach was asked at his latest press conference about comments made by Jamie Carragher, who tipped Smith’s side to break into the top four this term. The Sky Sports pundit said
“Villa are leading a group of clubs who have a “once in a generation” opportunity to secure Champions League football.”
Dean Smith acknowledged that Villa is on the right track after narrowly dodging relegation last term but believes there’s no need to look at the league table yet.
Dean Smith said “It could be a special season but we are not even at the halfway point ourselves yet, Probably when there are five or six games to go [I’ll start looking]. You only have to look at last season. Leicester were in the top four and played Manchester United at home and Chelsea were fighting for the position. We are not looking that far ahead. We are just looking to the next game and trying to get some points on the board.”
