Graham Potter is reportedly eager to bring his former colleague, Kyle Macaulay, to West Ham United. Potter, who is set to be appointed as the new head coach of the Hammers, has previously worked with Macaulay at Ostersunds, Swansea, Brighton, and Chelsea. The duo has a working relationship that spans over a decade, during which they rose from the fourth-tier of Swedish football to the Champions League quarter-final.
West Ham United, in a statement, announced the departure of their head coach and his staff.
West Ham United said “West Ham United can confirm that head coach Julen Lopetegui has today left the club. The first half of the 2024/25 season has not aligned with the club’s ambitions and the club has therefore taken action in line with its objectives. The club can confirm that assistant head coach Pablo Sanz, head of performance Oscar Caro, head analyst Juan Vicente Peinado, fitness coach Borja De Alba and technical coach Edu Rubio have also left with immediate effect.”
The club also expressed gratitude towards the outgoing staff and confirmed the process of appointing a replacement is underway.
The board said “The board would like to thank Julen and his staff for their hard work during their time with the club and wish them every success for the future. The process of appointing a replacement is underway.”
Potter is expected to take charge of the Hammers for their trip to Villa on Friday. He is hoping to bolster his backroom staff as soon as possible. Macaulay, who is still working at Chelsea, could be an impressive recruit should West Ham sign him. Macaulay had a short stint in professional football in 2008 before moving part-time and then into recruitment analysis.
