Manchester City vice-captain Kevin De Bruyne’s comments after the West Ham game have stirred up some controversy. The Belgian midfielder was asked about how the West Ham goal had affected the crowd at the Etihad Stadium.
Kevin De Bruyne said “Yeah but I don’t know why. I can understand that we are not up to the level but they should support us. They know the effort is there 100 per cent and we were still winning 4-1 so I don’t understand why it’s happening. It’s not like [West Ham] created a lot of chances either.”
The atmosphere at the Etihad Stadium was tense, with Manchester City’s performance on the pitch not helping. Manager Pep Guardiola was visibly distressed on the touchline, reacting to the team’s performance rather than the crowd’s reaction.
Pep Guardiola said nothing, but his body language spoke volumes about his disappointment with the team’s performance.
City fans have been increasingly agitated, seeing the same warning signs on the pitch that have led to the team dropping points in recent months. De Bruyne’s comments risked stirring up further discontent among the supporters.
Kevin De Bruyne said “How can you not understand the obvious!”
Despite the current challenges, City fans continue to support De Bruyne and the rest of the squad, who have given them unforgettable memories over the past decade. However, the players’ recent comments and performances have tested the patience of the supporters who have backed the club through thick and thin.
