Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has addressed the ongoing transfer speculation surrounding centre-back Diego Carlos. The player, who was made available for transfer last summer, is currently a target for Turkish giants Fenerbahce. Reports suggest that negotiations for a permanent transfer are at an advanced stage. However, Villa is unlikely to sanction a move without having a replacement lined up. Carlos is currently injured and was absent from Villa’s recent win over Leicester City. He will also miss the FA Cup third round clash against West Ham.
Unai Emery said “When we are in the transfer window different options can happen with the players. Of course we can see how important Diego Carlos was and is for us because he played consistently with us, performing very well. After those circumstances we will analyse and always try to make the best decision.”
In other news, Villa has reportedly been offered the chance to sign Milan Skriniar on loan until the end of the season. However, it appears that Napoli and Galatasaray are also interested in the player. Paris Saint-Germain are said to have offered Skriniar to Napoli as part of a deal involving winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
As part of their season-long celebration, Aston Villa players will wear a one-off black kit in their FA Cup match against West Ham. This is to mark nearly 150 years since their first-ever recorded match. The kit, which features adidas’ Aeroready technology and the famous three stripes in all black, is a nod to the colour Villa first used before transitioning to their current claret and blue colours.
