#PLStories- #GarethSouthgate praises #EmileSmithRowe and other Arsenal youngsters ahead of Euro 2020 #ArsenalFC

Here are your Arsenal evening headlines for Tuesday, March 2. England boss Southgate praises Saka and Smith Rowe Gareth Southgate has praised two Arsenal youngsters in Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka ahead of this summer's Euro 2020. "‘Emile Smith Rowe getting his opportunity at Arsenal," Southgate told talkSPORT. "We know those kids are there and we know the talent is there, but when the buying and spending power of the clubs is greater than anything around Europe, and the pressure is on to have immediate success, it is easier to go and buy the finished product from abroad. "There was always this blockage for young English players, now they’re getting their chance. Adams undecided on Odegaard Arsenal legend Tony Adams believes the 'jury is out' on Real Madrid loan star Martin Odegaard. The Gunners signed Odegaard on loan until the end of the season towards the end of the January transfer window with Mikel Arteta short of creativity in the first half of the campaign. Odegaard was introduced teasingly, but he has started two of Arsenal's last three and he also came on in the first half as Arsenal beat Leicester City 3-1 away from home on Sunday. The Norwegian midfielder's influence has been felt with quick, smart passes aplenty, but former Arsenal defender Adams is still unsure whether Odegaard is suited to the Premier League. “The Premier League is a bit special with respect that Odegaard has come into this league,” he told Stadium Astro. I think he’s a super player, very talented. But is the Premier League for him? Not too sure about that.” Read More Related Articles Read More Related Articles Duo make team of the week Two Arsenal players have made a Team of the Week after the weekend's win over Leicester City. His movement across the face of the six-yard box was excellent and matched only by his header - Arsenal's equaliser. Speaking about Willian's contribution, Crooks added: "To be out of the team for such long periods and to come back into the Arsenal side and perform so well against an in-form Leicester, and away from home, was impressive. "Willian has struggled since his arrival at Emirates Stadium, although he made my team of the week after an impressive debut against Fulham in the opening game of the season."
Arsene Wenger

#PL Stories – #ArseneWenger identifies #ThiagoAlcantara as the main reason for Liverpool’s bad results this season #LFC

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has criticised Liverpool for the signing of Thiago Alcantara, identifying what the team has lost with his arrival. Jurgen Klopp's side are enduring a disastrous defence of their Premier League crown, dropping to sixth in the standings and 13 points behind leaders Manchester City, who hold a game in hand. While there was plenty of excitement surrounding the capture of Thiago, the Spaniard has endured difficulties upon his arrival in the Premier League. Wenger has identified that his inclusion in the team sees Klopp's side lose some of the aggression they had in midfield in recent years and also hinted at why Wenger signed the played he did while at Arsenal. Video Loading Video Unavailable Click to play Tap to play The video will auto-play soon8Cancel "Thiago Alcantara, for me, shows a problem for a manager. Liverpool were very hungry and aggressive in midfield, when you're a manager you think you want to make the team better and you take a technical player," he told BeIN Sports. "When you take a technical player, you lose the aggression in midfield and you destroy a little bit the strength in midfield that Liverpool had before. "They have certainly less capacity today to win the ball back and they suffer a little bit more. Sometimes when you want to improve the team, you take something away from it." That may also explain why Wenger regularly seemed to ignored calls for Arsenal to sign a defensive midfielder during the latter years of his spell in charge at the Emirates Stadium. It was repeatedly highlighted as an idea on the field where the Gunners needed to improve but Wenger pursued alternative additions - and his comments on Thiago taking something away from Liverpool may identify why.
Ian Wright Arsenal

#PremierLeagueStories – #IanWright hails Arsenal as ‘magnificent’ after resounding win over Chelsea #AFC

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has delivered his verdict on his former club's performance in their win over Chelsea on Boxing Day. The Gunners pulled off a surprise 3-1 home win over their London rivals thanks to goals from Alexandre Lacazette, Granit Xhaka and Bukayo Saka, ending a run of seven straight Premier League games without a win. The win was one Mikel Arteta desperately needed with pressure mounting over his future following a hugely disappointing start to the season which has left the Gunners in 15th, even after that win over the Blues. Nevertheless, the performance was one to be commended and a clear step in the right direction, something Wright agrees with, describing his former club's efforts as 'magnificent'. The changes, the intensity, everything we said they didn’t have, was evident. “They rode their luck a bit but I think they deserved the luck they got because of the way they played – with a lot more intensity and forward progression and in the end, we got the result and I’m delighted." The win will take some weight from Arteta's shoulders, but there is still plenty of work to do and the Spaniard must continue to turn results around.
