Weather warning and Met Office forecast before UK snow and Liverpool Manchester United game

Manchester United’s Sunday evening clash with Liverpool will have to survive an amber weather warning. With temperatures set to drop below freezing across the UK, Merseyside could be left covered in snow. The Met Office has released an official threat of ‘snow and freezing rain [that] will likely lead to disruption to transport and some other services.’ Up to 40 centimetres of snow has been forecast for some areas of the country.
“While there’s some uncertainty in details, 3-7cm of snow is likely for most of the warning area, with locally 15-30cm for the higher ground of Wales and the southern Pennines. Freezing rain could lead to ice accretion in places, especially parts of Wales – before the milder air leads to a rapid thaw of snow and ice in the south of the warning area through Sunday.”
Just one month on from Liverpool’s Merseyside derby against Everton at Goodison Park being postponed due to the impact of Storm Darragh, with torrential rain and extreme wind, there is attention on the weather once more here. Across the north-west there is the chance of ice and snow from 8pm on Saturday night that may not stop until 8am on Sunday morning. Adding to this, supporters have been advised to keep updated on the latest travel guidance for safety and access. This is especially important for the visiting United fans. The National Highways agency has explained that the A628 Snake Pass between Sheffield and Manchester is likely to close at 10pm as a precaution, for example, which could effect some of those not heading to the game from the city itself.
