Timothy Castagne has given a gruesome account of the terrible injury he suffered at Euro 2020. The Leicester City defender was ruled out for the rest of the tournament when he had a horrible whack on the head in the first half of a group game against Russia.
Timothy Castagne said: ”The Russian doctors did the first examinations and it became clear that the bone around my eye socket was broken in six places. Our team doctor immediately made the comparison with Kevin De Bruyne, only this was even worse. Once I realised my tournament was over, I collapsed for a moment. I think the medical staff immediately realised that it was very bad, but it only really dawned on me in the hospital in St Petersburg. Until that moment I hadn’t seen my face in a mirror either. But apparently you could really see that part of the eye socket was dented from the impact. The doctor told me I have been lucky. If the impact had been three centimetres higher, I could have suffered brain damage. That might have been the end of my career.”
