Jurgen Klopp has hinted that Liverpool will travel to Tottenham with a more restrained game-plan on Thursday evening. The champions could head into the weekend’s games as low as seventh if results go against them and Klopp says he
Jurgen Klopp said “Of course we speak [about the poor run], but we speak about good things as well,” Klopp said. “What I tell the boys is for the boys, but it is not that we just think we cannot do better individually or as a group. It is not that we think ‘my god, it is just unlucky’. So some of the things that happened to the squad were unlucky with injuries early. But since then, it is not unlucky, it is about us and how we deal with certain situations with different things, that is the truth. It is how I said. The first goal we conceded against United, we tried too hard. But I would prefer trying too hard than not trying at all. We had no protection because everyone was involved in the finishing, that is good but of course, you have to do it slightly differently but not completely different and that is what we try to do. Yes we need offers, options, target players, passing, all these kinds of things, but we need protection as well. That wasn’t the case around the first goal. Of course, before a game against Tottenham, you should make sure that you are well protected with the way they play 100 per cent. These are the things, so it is all a process and unfortunately I cannot guarantee an immediate turnaround, but we will work on it and we will really be there to show that we are ready.”
Klopp says some of the reactions to his team’s poor month of form was to be expected but says he and his players are focusing firmly on ending a run that has seen them win just one of the last seven in all competitions.
Jurgen Klopp said “That is normal. So everything is either massive news or not. Every minute you get massive news and then it is ‘wow really?!’ and then two seconds later you get more information, that is how it is.
