Speaking after a 5-0 win for his side that took them to the top of the table, Pep Guardiola was sympathetic for his opponents – he knows more than most how painful it can be to be on the wrong end of a VAR decision – and will stress to his team the importance of keeping their focus at all times even if it goes against their instincts.
Pep Guardiola said “I understand the complaints from West Brom players and management,” he said, “but I said many times to the team with this rule you have to follow the action until the end because now VAR makes a big influence in the game; a disallowed goal can be a goal and a goal can be disallowed. It is a good lesson for us, we will speak in the next days because if it happened to West Brom it can happen to us.”
