New Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery admits the group of players he inherited from Steven Gerrard have been underperforming this season and his first job is to help them rediscover their confidence.
Unai Emery said: “I know and I watched matches, they are good players but they are now underperforming. They are now less confident than usual. My first step is to help them achieve their best performance during each training, each match and being together. Ambition is very important. With ambition you can think in short term because if the next matches you do not win it’s going to be difficult. I want to improve first the players’ confidence, I believe in them but I know they are underperforming and short-term is the first step I want to do. The break will help us. After 10 days we are going to be off, we are going to start again, we will have training days to improve and create identity and our style.”
