Former Manchester United defender David Salder believes that Harry Maguire’s leadership is the biggest positive that the former Leicester City defender has brought to the club. United bought Maguire in an £80 million deal last summer but the player has made an instant impact at the club and has been made the captain by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following the departure of Ashley Young in January.aincy in January following Ashley Young’s departure to Inter Millan.
David Salder said “From when we first saw Maguire at Hull and Leicester, we saw a player who wasn’t bad and a big lad as well, He went to Leicester and what he did there was incredible. And at that point, he was going to be off somewhere – and I’m glad it was United. I think he’s got a lot to give over the years. You need as much of a relationship in defence as you do in midfield or further upfield. I think he’s got a bit of leadership: ‘I’m the captain and get your finger out’ and United needed a bit of that. You do need somebody who can take control of things. These days you’ve got to be very careful if your game is pitched around tackling because you can soon be up the tunnel. It’s very difficult to select players on their ability to tackle. But there’s no question he’s had a good start.”
