Steven Gerrard has snapped back at Jesse Marsch after the Leeds United boss claimed Aston Villa deliberately slowed the pace of the game down. Speaking in the post match press conference, Marsch criticised Villa’s pace throughout the fixture, despite a Leeds player seeing red for a gamesmanship related incident.
Jesse March said: “Villa slow the games down and it’s two or three opponents that want to, at every moment, throw the ball away and take a minute on every goal kick. We need some help to manage this, right? We can’t do it alone. The sad thing is is that this is the best environment in the league for me and our fans don’t come here to watch a snail’s-paced match.”
To which Gerrard countered
Steven Gerrard said: “Was he happy with their time-wasting when they went to 10? It works both ways. I’m not really interested in Jesse, what he thinks and his opinion. My priority is Aston Villa and I’m in here to talk about our performance. We’ll do what we need to do to get points and that won’t change.”
