Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has promised the club will make it to another Champions League final. Khaldoon sent the message to supporters after the Blues’ humbling against Chelsea at the weekend, where Thomas Tuchel’s side condemned City to defeat in their first Champions League final thanks to a first-half Kai Havertz strike. Despite Sergio Aguero ‘s introduction in the latter stages of the contest, City failed to find an equaliser and the club’s all-time top scorer was left in tears on the pitch but Khaldoon has reflected on that disappointment and insisted that there are better days ahead.
Khaldoon Al Mubarakh said: “I feel very, very proud of what this team has accomplished. When you reach a final, when you reach the Champions League final, it’s the pinnacle in football, the pinnacle in sports. I think it’s an incredible achievement, a remarkable season by any description but it’s also a combination of years of hard work to reach a level of consistency, a level of expectations that this club has reached now, which is a club that will compete year in, year out. You can’t win every year, but year in year out, we’re going to be there, it’s about going forward whenever we have setbacks, regrouping and then coming back stronger. The record of the last 10 years gives me and should give everyone the confidence and knowledge to know that we’re going to come back, and as sad as we all are at losing the Champions League final, we’ll be back in that final.”
