#PLStories- Ralph Hasenhuttl reveals Saints will not buy a striker in January #SAINTSFC

BOSS Ralph Hasenhuttl insisted Saints would not be in the market for a striker during the January transfer window – and vowed to work with the current options at his disposal. Saints have scored in all but four of their 13 league games to date this season, but registered more than once on only two occasions. Only struggling Norwich having managed fewer than their total of 11 goals this campaign. However, the Austrian admitted he would not have the funds to address that situation during the winter transfer window, when prices are notoriously high. Hasenhuttl will instead work on the potential he already has within his squad. Asked whether he would look to freshen up his group with a striker in January, Hasenhuttl replied: “No. For sure not because when you can guarantee me a striker that scores 24 or 25 goals in the Premier League, that costs around I don’t know… “I don’t think there are some goalscorers around available for us that guarantee us 24 or 25 goals in the Premier League.” Asked if he simply could not afford that kind of player, he added: “Not really, I think. “We are working on ours and bringing them to the level that they can help us. I think this is a better way.” Saints have rotated the likes of Adam Armstrong, Armando Broja and Che Adams this season. Nathan Redmond and Nathan Tella could also play up front, with Shane Long making just one appearance in the top flight. “We haven’t had that many games where we didn’t score goals this season, we had so far two or three,” said the Saints boss. “But in the end, yes, we haven’t scored that many this season. We had definitely more chances to do it. “This is something that is not so surprising because we have a few players up front, they are in their first year in the Premier League now. “With Adam Armstrong, with Broja – they need a little bit of time to adapt to the league I think – this is also normal. “A lot of potential we have there up front and we have to put the potential to excellence, this is the goal.” Saints take on Leicester City in the Premier League on Wednesday, looking to end a run of two straight defeats.

#PLStories- Ralph Hasenhuttl believes Ralf Rangnick will ‘turn every stone’ at Manchester United #SAINTSFC #MUFC

SAINTS boss Ralph Hasenhuttl believes new Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick will “turn every stone” at Old Trafford and backed him to have a “big impact”. The 63-year-old German has joined United from Lokomotiv Moscow, where he was manager of sports and development, and will take over from caretaker boss Michael Carrick until the end of the season. He will then take on a two-year consultancy role at the club. Saints manager Hasenhuttl worked with Rangnick during his time at RB Leipzig. Quizzed about Rangnick following his appointment on Monday, Hasenhuttl said: “I know him very well. We had two very successful years. “He was sporting director, so I know how he is and how he works. “He’s a hard worker and he needs a good team around him. He will turn every stone around there for sure because he doesn’t want any weakness in any part of his club. “Six months is not too long to turn things around but he will have a big impact. “I think this league is known that the best managers are working here, or it is especially the big teams, they should always look for the best possible options, in a moment he was one of these and I'm sure that he will have his impact in this league.” Rangnick and Hasenhuttl are scheduled to be in opposite dugouts when Saints visit Manchester United on February 12. Asked whether he had spoken to the German boss, Hasenhuttl said: “Only a message to congratulate him on his big dream of coming to the Premier League. “Now it has become real and it is fantastic for him, he’s been waiting for this moment.”
Graham Potter Brighton

#PLStories- Brighton boss Graham Potter reveals positives against Leeds United #BHAFC

Graham Potter said there were "too many positives to mention" after Albion’s draw with Leeds. The Seagulls were held 0-0 despite dominating much of the play. Potter highlighted the specific tactical test posed by Leeds and how his team went about breaking them down. He said: “It was one of those when the ball didn’t go for us. We did everything but score. “I think we played really well, showed great personality. “Great courage against a team who make it difficult for you in terms of how they defend. “Man for man, they leave one of your centre-backs on the ball. “You have to construct your attacks from there so you need to be patient, you need to find the right moment, which isn’t easy. "It takes courage but I thought the lads did it really well and created some really good chances.” Potter had been asked a question specifically about Tariq Lamptey’s threat down the right. He said: “Tariq contributed to that in a fantastic way, so did Leo (Trossard) on the other side . “Too many positives to mention to be honest. Really, really happy.” Potter was pleased with how Lamptey’s team-mates got him the ball in good areas. GRAHAM POTTER UNHAPPY WITH BOOS AS BRIGHTON DRAW WITH LEEDS And he said sometimes that might require patience and backwards passes which fans did not like to see. He added: “With Leeds you have to know how to get the ball to your one-v-one players. “I thought we did that well. We used our centre-backs, used our keeper. “Sometimes you have to go back to go forward. “It’s hard for people to understand that, I understand that, but that’s the reality of how you have to attack sometimes against Leeds.”
Sean Dyche Burnley

#PLStories- Sean Dyche and Antonio Conte give their perspective after Burnley’s clash with Spurs gets snowed off #BURNLEYFC #THFC

SEAN Dyche said there was no way Burnley’s clash with Spurs could have gone ahead after it was postponed less than a hour before kick off due to heavy snow fall at Turf Moor. After snow began to fall in late morning, attempts to clear the pitch began around 90 minutes before the scheduled 2pm kick-off but proved in vain, with snow coming down as quickly as it could be moved. Turf Moor’s undersoil heating had been on overnight but was unable to cope. There were also concerns over areas around the ground as supporters began to arrive. The announcement was made shortly after both clubs had named their teams for the match. There has been no information as to when the match might now be played. Spurs, who had stayed overnight in Manchester, had been late to arrive at Turf Moor, seen entering the stadium just before 1pm. Officials, led by referee Peter Bankes, waited until both managers were present and had been consulted before making the call. True to form, Dyche carried out his own pitch inspection without wearing a jacket even as the snow came down, heavy enough to leave a microphone being used by broadcasters to interview Spurs left-back Ben Davies resembling an ice cream cone by the time he was finished. Dyche told BBC Sport: “As you can see, the pitch re-covers every time they clear it. “The referee explained the safety angle as well so it was important to make a decision early. “We were ready for the game and I made it clear if it could be played we wanted it on – as did their manager. “I can’t see how it could go ahead the way the pitch is at the moment.” Spurs had made the trip north with boss Antonio Conte demanding a response from Thursday’s humiliation away to NS Mura in the Europa Conference League. Instead it was a long trip for nothing as the postponement came less than 15 minutes after they were seen getting off the team bus. “It is a big disappointment because we were ready to play and we prepared for the game, and all the travel,” the Italian said. “But at same time I think the Premier League made the right decision to save the situation for the players and the fans. For everybody. It’s disappointing but the decision was right. “Ten minutes before the snow is worse than it was before and in this condition, it’s not football. I want to play football, I want to play. In this type of situation it’s impossible. There’s serious risk of injury and this is not good.” Officials feared that even if the pitch could be cleared sufficiently for the match to start, further delays were likely as the game would need to be stopped regularly to clear the lines, with Bankes telling Sky Sports they risked an “element of farce”. “There was an opportunity to stop the game every 15 minutes but that would have affected the spectacle,” he said. “Both managers agreed the spectacle wouldn’t have been great for the supporters.”

#PLStories- Ralph Hasenhuttl admits Lyanco endured hard lesson against Liverpool after Saints hammering #SAINTSFC

RALPH Hasenhuttl admits the Liverpool hammering was a harsh lesson for Lyanco to endure on his first league start for Saints, but insisted: “This is the Premier League, you have to learn.”  The 24-year-old Brazilian made his first Premier League appearances as a substitute in the 1-0 wins over Watford and Aston Villa, playing a more integral role in the latter. He was then introduced again in a similar manner at Norwich, with Hasenhuttl changing to a five-at-the-back unsuccessfully on that occasion, and earned his first start at Anfield as the boss did the same thing. But it was as difficult as it could get for the summer signing with an eventual 4-0 defeat against the former Premier League and European champions – while he was also unfortunate to see Thiago’s strike deflect off him and into the net to all-but seal it in the first-half. it didn't end here… we continue with work and goals !!!! let's go SAINTS, thank you fans! ❤️🤍💪🏿👊🏿🔥🦍 @SouthamptonFC pic.twitter.com/Om1B4k6bFG — Lyanco Vojnovic (@Lyanco) November 27, 2021 Each of the Saints defenders were powerless to resist the quality of Liverpool’s world class front three, and Hasenhuttl was asked if it was the toughest lesson Lyanco could get on his first start. The boss told the Daily Echo: “Yes, this is the Premier League, you know. “You know that you play against the best teams in the world and you have to learn. You have to get better.” He continued: “This is what we all are doing every week, learning and finding solutions against top teams is always difficult. “This is not a place where you have to get points, we have taken one at Manchester City with an unbelievable performance and also at Chelsea we were long on the way to take something. “On Saturday it was very easy for them because we had a bad first-half and this was very disappointing that we couldn’t keep the game open for longer.” Popular Lyanco had done well to show fans his promise despite a shaky start, when he struggled immensely on his debut at Sheffield United in the EFL Cup. Lyanco arrived from Serie A side Torino in the summer having in the past captained Brazil at under-23 level. He was brought in as a replacement for Jannik Vestergaard, who joined Ryan Bertrand in moving to FA Cup winners Leicester. Defender Jack Stephens is on his way back from injury and will soon hope to provide further reinforcements in the centre of defence.

#PLStories- Ralph Hasenhuttl explains why he started Romain Perraud over Kyle Walker-Peters #SAINTSFC

KYLE Walker-Peters was dropped for the trip to Anfield as Ralph Hasenhuttl explains his decision to reintroduce Frenchman Romain Perraud.  Perraud, 24, made his first Saints start since the 2-2 draw with Burnley in October as Saints were demolished 4-0 by Liverpool on Merseyside. He started as a left-wing-back in Hasenhuttl’s five-man defence, despite right-footed Walker-Peters having impressed initially sceptical supporters with his impressive attacking performances. Tino Livramento made his 13th consecutive Premier League start and that meant former Spurs man Walker-Peters was limited to just a couple of minutes at the end of the long-gone match. And speaking after the match, Hasenhuttl explained the decision to the Daily Echo, revealing: “I wanted another left foot on this side who wants to play inside with his left foot, I think this was the goal. “We had a few good moments from this, with Romain, but in the back five I think it is, and he has played it in some games this season where it has worked well, but again today the individual quality playing you have seen what happens. “It was not possible for us today to do it like this.” Perraud arrived from French Ligue One side Stade Brest in the summer as a direct replacement for Ryan Bertrand, but has been embroiled in a battle with typically right-sided Walker-Peters since. The former France under-21 international has made six starts in the Premier League this campaign, yet to contribute a goal or assist and has registered two clean sheets.
Graham Potter Brighton

Graham Potter said he could not understand booing after his side drew 0-0 with Leeds. Albion dominated much of the Premier League contest but had to settle for a point as chances were missed. There was some booing at full-time as disappointed fans saw two points slip away. Head coach Potter initially told BBC Radio Sussex: “You can’t control that, everybody is entitled to their opinion. “I completely disagree. We’ll carry on.” Potter spoke more on the theme when he faced writers from the Monday newspapers via Zoom soon after. He accepted there were chances which should have been converted but was largely very pleased with the performance. The Seagulls boss added: “If we play like that over the course of the season, we will score and we will win."
