Martin Dubravka says Newcastle United players are hardly climbing the walls with anxiety after their horror start to the season continued at Arsenal. The Slovakia international made a return at the Emirates Stadium but could not stop the Magpies sliding to defeat number number seven of the campaign as the Gunners triumphed 2-0. Newcastle are now one of just six clubs to have failed to win a game in their first 13 games but Dubravka is positive about the situation.

Martin Dubravka said: “We still have a lot of games to play. I don’t think anybody in the dressing room thinks that way (are worried). Yes, it’s not the best start for us, we know that. And we do need to work on certain situations and plans. We have to stick together because that is the only way to deal with this situation. Mentally it’s not easy but the good thing is the next game is in two days so we can show the attitude and win the games.”

Dubravka pulled of some remarkable saves on a day in which he faced 24 goal attempts from the London side.

Martin Dubravka said: “It is disappointing because I think we have been solid during the game. Obviously the top sides are going to create of good chances. But I think we were trying to stop them and be dangerous up front. It is not always easy to play against a top side. And they showed their quality.”

Newcastle had gave Arsenal a first half scare when Jonjo Shelvey’s shot was tipped on to the bar by Aaron Ramsdale. And Dubravka could not even be critical of his defence after goals from Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli eventually beat him.

Martin Dubravka said:  “I wouldn’t even say we made a mistake it just showed they had individual quality.
