Bruno Lage expects Fosun to make up for their summer shortfalls in January and bolster his Wolverhampton Wanderers squad with ‘one or two’ key additions. The head coach has guided Wolves to an impressive start to the Premier League season, despite a lack of backing during the summer window.
Bruno Lage said: “One thing is what I want and the people know what I want. I have seen how the competition needs to be inside our building. We need to create the squad that we want to continue to grow up, not just as a team but also to put the club in a different level. I just want top players and when I say top players, it’s not about how much they cost, it’s about the mentality they have. I’m very happy with all of the guys here. That’s why it’s so difficult for us to find the right guys. We have talented players. I don’t want a player for the squad, I want a player to come and create competition in the positions I think we need.”
Pressed on whether he wants those additions to be made in January,
Bruno Lage added: “Yes. We need to understand the financial part. January is sometimes a difficult month, so we need to understand the best deals. If the best deal comes with the right player, for me it’s good.”
Those above Lage are also weighing up whether to cash in on winger Adama Traore, who still hasn’t penned a contract extension after 18 months of negotiations. Traore was targeted by Tottenham Hotspur during the summer window and Liverpool, Real Madrid and Barcelona have been linked with the 25-year-old in the last month. Lage has only started Traore in two of Wolves’ last nine matches, but he hopes to hang onto him and everyone else already in his threadbare squad.
Bruno Lage concluded: “The main point for January is that everyone should continue with us. For me, no one goes. Everyone continues with us. Maybe we need one or two players to improve our squad.”
