Michael Carrick will take charge of the game before handing over the reins to Ralf Rangnick next week with the former England midfielder hoping to make it two wins from two and Rangnick expected to be announced. Villarreal were beaten 2-0 by the Red Devils on Tuesday night, Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho with the goals, and a win away to the league leaders will be the perfect way to sign off.
Michael Carrick said: “We got two or three little issues. It is never ideal. One or two we are waiting on and Luke took a bang on the head a few weeks ago and took a bang against Watford. We’ll make a call on him. Fred twisted his ankle, played a big part, we will have to see how that settles down. One or two others.”
Shaw has not enjoyed the strongest start to the season following an impressive Euro 2020 campaign and concerns over concussion could see him miss out against Chelsea. Alex Telles could well step in and, if past comments from Reece James are anything to go bt, the absence of Shaw may hand Chelsea a physical advantage.
Reece James said: “Luke Shaw is strong. They (Mings, Maguire) are definitely strong but Luke is a beast, a brick. If there’s one guy I play against that I know is going to be strong, it’d definitely be him.”
