Steven Gerrard is already looking ahead to Aston Villa’s midweek game against Manchester City, after watching his side win 2-1 at Crystal Palace on Saturday. The Liverpool legend made it six points from his first two games thanks to goals from Matt Target and John McGinn. When asked about making the Premier League look easy after his perfect start since his switch from Rangers, Gerrard stated he was already focused on taking points off City when they travel to Villa Park on Wednesday.
Steven Gerrard said: “I wish it was easy, I wish. We’ve got Man City to come in midweek and we can enjoy tonight but we’ll go to work tomorrow in terms of preparing the team the best way we can. We know it’ll be tough. We know we’ll be the underdogs but we will give it our best shot. We’re really pleased with the start we’ve made but there’s still a lot of work to do to grow and evolve, and that’s my job to make sure that happens.”
Gerrard was pleased with his side’s ability to execute his strategy at Selhurst Park, where Palace were previously unbeaten in the league.
Steven Gerrard added: “I thought we were difficult to play against today. I thought we executed the game plan for the majority of the game up until injury time. The players deserve a lot of credit for that, it’s a difficult place to come. To limit them to few opportunities is pleasing and we need to take confidence from that. If we can keep tweaking, improving and evolving then that will put us in good stead moving forward.”
Liverpool beat Southampton 4-0 at Anfield today to move into second, one point behind Chelsea. The league leaders take on Manchester United at home tomorrow, while City host West Ham.
