Claudio Ranieri has thanked Leicester City fans for their “fantastic” reception at the King Power Stadium. The Premier League winning manager was making his first return to Filbert Way since leaving the club in 2017. The 70-year-old was visibly touched by the reception, placing his hand on his heart to reciprocate the love shown by the Leicester fans.

Claudio Ranieri said: “The reception was fantastic. I want to say thank you to all the fans, Leicester fans. But also to our Watford fans. They came here on this very difficult day, and I want to say thank you because I hope they are proud of us. We fight until the end. We tried to do our best.”

Ranieri went on to give his thoughts on the match, suggesting Watford were punished for not being clinical enough.

Claudio Ranieri added: “If you see the match, we created more chances than Leicester, but they scored the goals we didn’t score. But I am positive because it’s important the team tried to create chances to score goals. Of course, we must be very focused in some moments of the match because we conceded four goals and it wasn’t so good. We can do much better. But I think, at the end of the match, they won because they were more aggressive, more determined than us.”
