#PLStories – #PedroNeto admits Liverpool side without #VirgilVanDijk #JoelMatip is easy for him to play #WolvesFC #LFC

Pedro Neto will lead Wolverhampton Wanderers’ fight against reigning champions Liverpool on Monday night. Jurgen Klopp’s side have lost six of their last seven Premier League games and Wolves will fancy their chances of adding to the Reds’ woes. It has been far from vintage Wolves this season, but Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have improved of late and should have taken three points at Aston Villa last time out. Neto was Villa’s tormentor-in-chief and the rapid winger has been Wolves’ stand-out player in an otherwise disappointing campaign. Such is Neto’s confidence at present, the winger insists he would rather face Liverpool’s imperious defenders Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip instead of the makeshift back-line Klopp will be forced to field at Molineux. “I have to be honest, I would rather play against van Dijk or Matip because I like to test myself against the best so I can improve my game,” Neto told wolves.co.uk. “The best thing we can do in football to learn, is to play with the best. “I came to this league to play with the best and to play against the best, and to show that I can do my job and play my game whoever is on the pitch.” Read More Related Articles Read More Related Articles One of the many problems Nuno is trying to fix is the lack of first half goals Wolves have scored. The Molineux men have been slow starters since their promotion to the Premier League, but they’ve scored just once in the first half of their last eight games. And Neto believes supporters can expect to see a more rampant Wolves from the off against Liverpool. “We are trying to change our mentality to go a little bit better in the first half, and we are looking forward to the game because it will be a good game, a hard game,” he added. “It’s always a difficult game against Liverpool because they have a very good team, but we have to take the opportunities in these difficult games to show that we have personality to play and to show our game.” Read More Related Articles Read More Related Articles

#PLStories- #RaulJimenez waiting on ‘test’ as #NunoEspiritoSanto issues latest injury update #WOLVESFC

Nuno Espirito Santo recently relayed his belief that Raul Jimenez will don Wolverhampton Wanderers' colours once again this season. The Mexican striker suffered what many presumed would be a season-ending injury at The Emirates in November following a clash of heads with Arsenal defender David Luiz. Scans later showed Jimenez had fractured his skull and he underwent an emergency operation at hospital in London to repair the damage. There were doubts over whether Jimenez would be able to resume his career, but the 29-year-old quickly signalled his intention to play football again. And speaking before Wolves' game at Chelsea in January, Nuno explained how he believed Jimenez could even play again this season. Here is everything we know about Jimenez's injury situation as he gears up for a return to action.... Video Loading Video Unavailable Click to play Tap to play The video will auto-play soon8Cancel What actually happened? “As the skull is hit there’s acceleration and deceleration,” explains Antonio Belli, Professor of Trauma Neurosurgery at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital. “The brain effectively accelerates and decelerates within the skull. There’s no space for the brain to move but what that means is that different parts of the brain - grey mass, white mass - all accelerate at a slightly different rate. "If you have suffered linear acceleration it’s not that bad. But as soon as you rotate the head then you cause straining of the nerve, particularly the axons which are the long strands that connect different nerve cells. They are particularly vulnerable because they are long and if you strain them you can suffer damage on the inside. “You get chemicals that are released through the nerves that cause unconsciousness. The brain stops working in certain areas temporarily. What you need to repair is the damage inside the nerve cells and that can take days, it can take weeks, it can take months.” A timeline of Jimenez's recovery A timeline of Raul Jimenez's recovery November 29: Jimenez fractures his skull in a clash of heads with David Luiz. Nuno's latest update Wolves' head coach recently told reporters that he is 'totally confident' Jimenez will play before this season finishes against Manchester United on May 23. Jimenez has been involved in some of the non-contact training drills with his teammates, including passing exercises, but he isn't allowed to partake in any match situation. “He’s doing well, he’s improving, he’s been able to join some parts of the training session,” Nuno said. “We expect him to progress with his fitness. He is doing good, he’s feeling well, he’s happy, but we have to take the same measures and precautions as we always do. “We follow the protocols and we’re guided by that. It’s a very delicate situation and we cannot afford any kind of mistake.” Jimenez is still waiting to receive the green light from his surgeon to resume competitive training. Don Goodman fractured his skull playing for Wolves in 1996 and returned successfully. Like Jimenez, Goodman was renowned for being good with his head and offered some insight into the psychological barrier Wolves' number nine will have to overcome before his comeback. “I had a moment in training where I was wearing a skullcap still because I wasn’t allowed to head the ball,” Goodman explains. “I was joining in five-a-side and a ball was smashed straight towards my face and human nature made me duck my head, put my chin on my chest, and I took it on the top of the head. “It smacked me right where the fracture was and knocked me off my feet. Training stopped and the lads piled round me. I was giggling on the floor because I knew after that moment that I was OK. That was the test for me. “Raul will have his own test, whether that’s heading a ball in training or clashing heads.” Read More Related Articles Read More Related Articles

Pep Guardiola has praised his Manchester City team for preventing Wolverhampton Wanderers from running riot at The Etihad last night. Conor Coady scored Wolves’ only shot on target to tie the game at 1-1 just past the hour mark and Nuno Espirito Santo’s side briefly threatened another upset in the five minutes that followed. Pedro Neto and Adama Traore came to life, with the latter having two further shots at Ederson’s goal without success. The Prime Minister made a statement to Parliament at 3:30pm and will host a televised press conference at 7pm, explaining his plans to ease restrictions on the country. The first priority for the government is to reopen schools, which could come into effect as early as March 8. From a sporting perspective, outdoor organised sports for adults, such as football, golf and tennis, is expected to be permitted from March 29. As a result, football fans remain eager to know when they could return to their beloved stadiums, after almost a whole year since their last visit. Johnson announced last November that supporters would be permitted to return to stadiums as part of a 'Covid Winter Plan'. Areas in Tier 1 and Tier 2 were allowed 4000 and 2000 supporters at home games, respectively, though that soon changed as the country entered Tier 3 restrictions before the latest national lockdown was imposed just after Christmas. #PLStories- #RaulJimenez plans to ‘repay’ Wolves fans when he returns #WOLVESFC

Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Raul Jimenez has revealed he plans to play in Europe for 'many years'. The Mexican striker is currently building up his fitness after fracturing his skull in Wolves' 2-1 win over Arsenal at the end of November. Many presumed Jimenez's campaign was over but Nuno Espirito Santo recently admitted Wolves are hopeful that he will be able to play again this season. Wolves have struggled in his absence and, despite a recent upturn in fortunes, Nuno's side have collected just 13 points from a possible 42 in the Premier League without their talisman. #PL Stories- #NunoEspiritoSanto explains team selection of Wolves vs Southampton #WolvesFC

Nuno Espirito Santo is coming under-fire over his team selection for Wolverhampton Wanderers’ dire FA Cup exit to Southampton. The Wolves boss made six changes to his starting XI with key outfield players Conor Coady, Nelson Semedo, Adama Traore, Pedro Neto and Willian Jose making way for youthful replacements. Rui Patricio also dropped to the bench for cup goalkeeper John Ruddy. In doing so Nuno showed exactly where his priorities lie - at St Mary’s for the Premier League clash with the Saints on Sunday. He passed up the opportunity to reach an FA Cup quarter-final in favour of potentially moving up to 12th place in the Premier League at the weekend. A victory over Saints would have put Wolves just one game away from Wembley - and that match would have been against Championship outfit Bournemouth. To say that it was an opportunity missed is probably an understatement. When Nuno looks back on his managerial career he isn’t going to take great pleasure from a 12th-placed finish in the Premier League, and nor are any of his players. In a nutshell, last night’s game was Wolves’ season. The fans knew that, but Nuno didn’t. His decision to rest players for Wolves’ biggest game of the season is unforgivable in many supporters’ eyes. Nuno puts himself under pressure After two morale-boosting results against Arsenal and Leicester City eased the pressure on Nuno, he needlessly invited a fresh wave of scrutiny at 4:30pm yesterday. If a full-strength Wolves team had lost to Southampton, Nuno could have walked away knowing he personally couldn’t have done a great deal more. Now that Wolves are out of the FA Cup, some of the credit the Portuguese banked versus Arsenal and Leicester has been wiped out and he is once again seeing his every move critiqued. Nuno has now placed huge pressure on himself and what will presumably be a full-strength team to beat Southampton on Sunday. Nuno isn’t the only manager who will rest players, but he is probably the only one who will do so without bigger battles ahead of him. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side are in a similar position to Wolves and he made five changes of his own - though one of them was enforced with Liverpool loanee Takumi Minamino cup-tied. Wolverhampton Wanderers have agreed to let Cutrone head out on loan following the arrival of Brazilian striker Willian Jose, who started the 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in the Premier League today. There’s been interest from Italian clubs in Cutrone but Valencia appears to be the player’s destination of choice after a brief return to his parent club. “I cannot say too much until things are done and clear, but I’m not going to lie to you,” said Nuno. “I hope that things are almost solved. He will probably join Valencia until the end of the season.” Read More Related Articles Read More Related Articles Cutrone returned to Wolves from an unsuccessful loan spell at Fiorentina earlier this month and Nuno has used him four times in total. Nuno added: “We recalled Patrick to help us and to help him, regarding the situation he was in at Fiorentina. He was here for a couple of weeks. Clearly, with the arrival of Willian, Patrick expected to have more minutes so he’s joining another club.” His replacement in the squad, Willian, twice went close against Palace but he fired a blank in Wolves’ latest Premier League setback. The signing of Willian Jose has again cast doubt over Cutrone’s future at Wolves though, and reports in Italy suggest a number of Serie A clubs are keen to sign the striker. Speaking only last week, Nuno insisted Wolves were ‘not looking’ to loan out Cutrone before the end of the transfer window. The boss also explained that Wolves hope to reunite Cutrone with his family in England before too long. He’s working and training, but anything can happen.” Wolves aren’t expected to be particularly busy before the deadline with Willian’s arrival filling the void created by Raul Jimenez’s injury. “As long as the transfer window is open, anything can happen,” Nuno added. “It will be over on Monday. Several Championship and League One clubs were interested in signing Sanderson back in the summer, including Cardiff and Sheffield Wednesday, but the promise of regular minutes lured him to Sunderland. He’s only started five of their league games since - but three of those have arrived since the start of this month. Coincidence? Probably not. Reports emerged recently that Cardiff had approached Wolves about re-signing Sanderson on loan. There is a recall clause in the agreement with Sunderland but, as things stand, Wolves have decided against exercising it. Lee Johnson, who replaced Phil Parkinson as Sunderland manager at the beginning of December, has been working to allay any fears over a lack of playing time and he’s been in regular contact with Wolves. Johnson has already given Sanderson more League One minutes than Parkinson did - albeit in a variety of defensive positions - and there’s reason to believe that the Wolves youngster is well placed to kick on again. Speaking about Sanderson to our sister title ChronicleLive, Johnson said: "I think Dion has been good. I think since I've walked through the door he's been a good trainer, a good personality. He's a consistent individual with his outlook on life which I like. "Every time he's been called upon he's done well. We've played him in a number of positions bless him. Plenty of neutrals will have switched off after Wolves’ first half display, but this performance was exactly what was required. The Wolves head coach was asked about the goals from Daniel Podence and Pedro Neto as well as his team’s strength of character. Here’s what was discussed in his post-match press conference. Match reaction The way we reacted to the Chelsea goal was good. Particularly after the situation that happened in the last minute against Villa, we played a very good game and we had a big worry in the end. The situation now is the squad has to give answers, today at half time we turned to Otasowie and he did well. He is still a project that we have to work a lot with but he did well. Young boys are always useful for us and the help they have given us for these seasons has been huge. We have to rely on them and try to build them. (Image: PA) Proud of the character after penalty overturned? Yes, that is good. We always mention character when things go well, then we forget when things don’t go so well but the character is still there. Football is a game and it is played until the last whistle of the referee, this is what is more important. The character goes along with the focus, the belief, the commitment, with the support of each other. This is what I think is character. The rest is a game situation. Nature of those goals speak of confidence of Neto and Podence? They are both doing well, evolving in time to occupy different positions on the pitch. #PremierLeagueStories – #AlexTelles sends message of support to injured Wolves star #RaulJimenez #WWFC #MUFC

Manchester United full-back Alex Telles has sent his support to Wolves striker Raul Jimenez after his head injury vs Arsenal. The Wolves man suffered a fractured skull in the 2-1 victory over the Gunners last month. He returned home over the weekend after undergoing surgery at a local hospital. Telles himself suffered a similar injury during his time playing in Brazil and still bears the scars from the depressed fracture. #PremierLeagueStories – #NunoEspiritoSanto talks about #AdamaTraore contract situation amidst exit talks #WWFC

Nuno Espirito Santo has once again gone on the charm offensive with star winger Adama Traore. Wolverhampton Wanderers want to tie Traore down to a new contract at Molineux but negotiations between the club and his representatives have stalled. Traore still has three years remaining on his current contract so there’s little reason for Wolves to panic, but his suitors are likely to be encouraged by the stand-off. #PremierLeagueStories – #TrentAlexanderArnold talks about feeling powerless when playing against Wolves winger #AdamaTraore #WWFC #LFC

Trent Alexander-Arnold has admitted he felt 'powerless' up against Wolverhampton Wanderers' Adama Traore last season. Traore, 24, enjoyed a wonderful 2019/20 campaign and finished it as one of the Premier League's top assist makers, with only a handful of players - including Alexander-Arnold - contributing more than the Spaniard's nine. His superb form has sparked plenty of transfer interest with virtually every top team in Europe reportedly keeping tabs on Traore, who has been offered a new contract by Wolves. Liverpool, whose manager Jurgen Klopp dubbed Traore 'unplayable', are said to be among his admirers. And Alexander-Arnold has echoed the thoughts of his manager when it comes to Wolves' electric winger. #PremierLeagueStories – #MicahRichards disagrees with the penalty given to Leicester Against Wolves #WWFC #LCFC

Former Manchester City and England defender Micah Richards has criticised referee Anthony Taylor's decision to award Leicester City a controversial penalty during the early stages of Sunday's Premier League match against Wolves. Jamie Vardy stepped up to score the only goal of the game past Rui Patricio to hand victory to the Foxes. The spot-kick was awarded after Max Kilman handled Dennis Praet's cross, but it was debatable whether or not the Wolves ' defender had enough time to move his hand out of the way of the ball. Richards told Sky Sports he thought the penalty was 'soft' and that he believes the referee made a poor decision by awarding it. "It was soft. I don’t know where he is expected to put his hands there, his hands are in a natural position for where the ball is going to go," he said. #PremierLeagueStories – #NunoEspiritoSanto & #DavidMoyes disagree on the five substitute rule #WHUFC #WWFC

Nuno Espirito Santo is adamant the Premier League must stick with three substitutes amid growing calls for the reintroduction of five. The Wolverhampton Wanderers boss has been outspoken in his belief that three in-game changes is appropriate now that the players are up to speed physically. Premier League bosses were allowed to make five substitutions during the final nine matches of last season following the lockdown period, though Nuno rarely chose to use that many. West Ham boss David Moyes was initially in favour of the return to three substitutes but he's now had a change of heart and is calling on the Premier League to give managers an additional two. "I really didn't expect so many injuries. No parties have been willing to give anything up in terms of competitions or matches. So, while I still think it benefits bigger squads and clubs with bigger budgets, I would consider the change back." Nuno respectfully disagrees with the West Ham boss and believes the Premier League should stick to the rules it set out at the start of 2020/21. “No, I think football should have three substitutes," he said. "The only thing that made the rule change was because of the pandemic, so I don’t see why. I don’t agree. I prefer three. Max Kilman has revealed how Nuno Espirito Santo has transformed him into a Premier League defender. Kilman has started Wolves’ last four matches and helped the team pick up 10 points and three clean sheets in the process. He’s shown such class this term that it’s strange to think that just a couple of years ago Kilman was plying his trade in non-league with Maidenhead United. “I’m delighted to come in and play my part but credit to all the boys for how well they’ve been playing,” says Kilman. “With the shape we’ve had we’ve made it very difficult for teams and it’s paid off.” Video Loading Video Unavailable Click to play Tap to play The video will auto-play soon8Cancel Learning to operate in the shape Nuno prefers, which has at times this season been a hybrid of 3-4-3 and 3-5-2, has been key to Kilman’s emergence. After spending the majority of his first two seasons at Wolves watching and learning from the sidelines, the 23-year-old has fought his way into the starting XI and looks undroppable on current form. But what else has changed? What has Kilman improved in order to earn Nuno’s trust? “My game understanding and my physicality,” explains the 6ft 4in defender. “When I came in I’d never played five at the back so coming in I’ve had to adapt and understand my role as a defender. The 18-year-old striker has endured a difficult start to life at Molineux and hasn't featured under Nuno Espirito Santo since the dismal 4-0 defeat to West Ham last month. #PremierLeagueStories – #JacobMurphy reveals that his goal against Wolves was down to research about #RuiPatricio #NUFC

Jacob Murphy has claimed his late equaliser against Wolverhampton Wanderers was all down to his research on Rui Patricio. Murphy netted an 89th minute free-kick at Molineux to earn Newcastle United a point after Raul Jimenez had opened the scoring in spectacular fashion. Wolves weren't particularly pleased with the award of the free-kick but Nuno Espirito Santo was furious with the way his players set up the defensive wall. “If it goes over the wall then we have to deal with that, but it cannot go that side of the goal,” said Nuno. “We made a mistake with the set-up of the wall and we conceded.” Video Loading Video Unavailable Click to play Tap to play The video will auto-play soon8Cancel Replays showed Patricio and Leander Dendoncker, who the ball crept past on the left side of the wall, were still in discussions over its positioning moments before Murphy struck. But Murphy paid little attention to Wolves' wall in his post-match interview and suggested that his particular choice of free-kick exposed a weak point of Patricio. The winger said: “I saw the way their wall was set up and the way their goalie was positioned and last night I did bit of research on their goalie and I knew anything low and hard in the corners would have half a chance. With that gap I just though 'I'll hit that' and luckily it went in." Wolves are currently eighth in the Premier League with 10 points from their opening six games.

Patricio will be disappointed with the goal having got a hand to Murphy’s strike, but Nuno’s main gripe afterwards was with those in the wall. “If it goes over the wall then we have to deal with that, but it cannot go that side of the goal,” said Nuno. “We made a mistake with the set-up of the wall and we conceded.” Video Loading Video Unavailable Click to play Tap to play The video will auto-play soon8Cancel Wolves missed other chances before Jimenez opened the scoring with Pedro Neto and Daniel Podence going close. But their inability to kill off a Newcastle team which created very little of their own cost them in the end. “We were patient,” Nuno added. “We played well with the ball, moved them and were able to break them many times. “All the game we were in control, managing well and always being very organised. We had good spells of possession and good moments in the second half. “It was a good goal but it’s disappointing because we made a mistake in the final moments of the game that punishes us a lot.” Read More Related Articles Read More Related Articles For the second game in a row summer signing Vitinha was omitted from the 18-man squad. The Portuguese midfielder travelled to the ground with the team but didn't make the cut. Nuno suggested post-match that it was purely a selection decision rather than an injury to the 20-year-old. "Joao (Moutinho) played last game, he played very well., and today we decided to start with Ruben (Neves). I think it’s good for us that we have two quality players to choose from."

#PremierLeagueStories – #NunoEspiritoSanto defends #RaulJimenez over tackle to #RobinKoch of Leeds #WWFC

Nuno Espirito Santo has defended star striker Raul Jimenez after his involvement in an incident with Leeds United’s Robin Koch. Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Jimenez tangled with Koch near to his manager on the touchline during their win over Leeds on Monday. Referee David Coote didn’t spot the coming together, while VAR reviewed it and didn’t take any retrospective action. “Incidents happen during the game,” said Nuno. “The referee is there to judge and take a decision. “What I see in Raul is a very fair football player. Sometimes when you play with your back to your opponent you are more suited to get physical contact and he deals with that well knowing it is part of the game.” Video Loading Video Unavailable Click to play Tap to play The video will auto-play soon8Cancel Jimenez’s winning goal at Leeds was his 47th in 107 appearances for Wolves, while he’s also contributed his fair share of assists in that time. His ascent to become one of the Premier League’s most revered forwards has been made all the more impressive by the hectic workload he’s taken on with his country. In the last two years Jimenez has become the poster boy for Mexico’s national team and recently starred in their friendlies with the Netherlands and Algeria. The 29-year-old scored the winner from the penalty spot against the Netherlands before creating both of El Tri’s goals in a 2-2 draw with Algeria. He’s played every minute in the Premier League this season and continues to accumulate extraordinary goal scoring statistics. “With Raul, it’s been a challenge for him and for us to manage the minutes that he plays,” Nuno explained. “He played in the Gold Cup with Mexico at the beginning of last season but he’s been able to perform very well and sustain his levels of fitness. “And again this season, it’s always a challenge for him and for us. I see Raul very well, I see him fresh and available, and when he’s like that all the talent emerges and he’s able to help the team. “He treats himself very well. The days that he needs to recover, he’s really committed to it. When he works during matches, he gives everything that he has. He is always able to pass that barrier of eventual fatigue.” Wolves daily newsletter. Free. Steve Bruce Newcastle

#PremierLeagueStories – GoalKeeping Crisis at Newcastle as #SteveBruce provides #KarlDarlow update #NUFC

Steve Bruce is facing up to a Newcastle United goalkeeping crisis ahead of their game with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday. Karl Darlow is a major doubt for the game after taking a whack in last weekend's 4-1 defeat to Manchester United, while Bruce's number one Martin Dubravka is out until December. Darlow is set to be given until Sunday morning to prove his fitness for the match at Molineux with third choice goalkeeper Mark Gillespie waiting to deputise. Former Walsall goalkeeper Gillespie, 28, has played three times for Newcastle in the Carabao Cup this season and kept clean sheets in wins over Blackburn and Morecambe. He has made a huge improvement from Saturday night. We will take it to the wire and see how he is. It is an impact. It is in a very sore region. He took an awful knock. “We will see how fit he is in 48 hours. He has done fantastically well and waited patiently for his chance. "He was thrown into it after Martin's injury. We hope, hope he can make it. We'll wait and see. “Mark is ready. That's why we brought him here. It looks a good shout now. He has played in the SPL for 4-5 years and he'll be fine if called on.” Read More Related Articles Read More Related Articles Back-to-back wins over Fulham and Leeds United have moved Wolves up to sixth in the early standings, two points ahead of Newcastle who sit 13th. Leander Dendoncker

#PLStories – #LeanderDendoncker thanks KevinDeBruyne for help in defeating Leeds United #LUFC #WolvesFC

Leander Dendoncker has offered a fascinating insight into how Wolverhampton Wanderers outwitted Leeds United tactically on Monday. Wolves defended deep in the first half as Marcelo Bielsa’s men laid siege on their goal before opening up on the counter-attack in the second period. And they were rewarded with three points with Raul Jimenez’s deflected strike the difference between the two teams at Elland Road. And Dendoncker, whose solidity in midfield was key to Wolves neutralising Leeds’ threat, has explained how they approached a unique opponent. Video Loading Video Unavailable Click to play Tap to play The video will auto-play soon8Cancel “We knew that it was going to be a very tough game and we felt that, especially in the first 20 or 30 minutes we suffered a lot,” Dendoncker explained to Matchday Live Extra. “That’s just the way they play. They go man against man and I don’t think any team is used to that.” Dendoncker was also given a helping hand by international teammate Kevin De Bruyne after the Manchester City man shared information about Leeds while on Belgium duty last week. De Bruyne played for City in their 1-1 draw with Leeds before the international break in a game which became chaotic and end-to-end in the second half. Read More Related Articles Read More Related Articles Dendoncker added: “They (Manchester City) played them before the international break and Kevin De Bruyne told me that it will be very hard because they go man to man but he also said that after 30 minutes they leave spaces. “I think that’s what you could see. I know the first half wasn’t really good from our side because we were looking how to find the spaces, how to deal with them. “In the second half we managed it way better. To get three points here is really difficult and I don’t think a lot of teams will do it.”
Conor Coady

#PLStories – #ConorCoady reveals #MaxKilman is the only player who dares to challenge #AdamaTraore in training #WolvesFC

Wolves captain Conor Coady has heaped praise on last night's star performer Max Kilman - despite joking about his man-of-the-match award. The 23-year-old made his second-successive start alongside Coady and Willy Boly as Nuno's men recorded their back-to-back clean sheets. The 1-0 victory over Leeds was Kilman's sixth Premier League appearance for the club and, afterwards, Coady was asked about his teammate's classy display. "Did he?! No he never!?" was Coady's initial response when told of Kilman's man-of-the-match gong, adding: "He's been brilliant, honestly. "He's been with us for years. He's a great lad. Tonight he was brilliant. He's learnt that role inside out for three or four years. He gives us a little bit of balance on that left-hand side as does Saiss as well. He's been brilliant the last few games and he'll keep on getting better. He's a pleasure to play with." He loves having battles with Adama. Most people don't go near Adama in training and he full on fights with him and he loves that side of it. "He's improved loads in the last few years and he was brilliant again tonight. He deserved man of the match, by the way!" Match-winner Raul Jimenez scored his third Premier League goal of the season for Wolves at Elland Road and, afterwards, Coady commented on the result: "It was a massive result for us. We knew coming here how tough it was going to be but we worked the game plan out over the last few days. They were fantastic last year and deservedly so got to the Premier League. Read More Related Articles Read More Related Articles "We watched their last game against Man City and they've got a certain way of playing, it's about 112mph but we stuck at it and it was a fantastic win. "It's always about managing a game and looking at how they play. We've never played against Leeds before with their manager. It's hard to get after them. They were very attacking. They play at 100mph and you've got to play with your brains. It's tough. They're very attacking with two wing-backs who are wingers. We needed to look at that. "Second half we knew we'd get more control and we knew they'd tire a bit. I thought we played fantastic second-half. A clean sheet is massive for us, we want one every single game and that's what we base our foundations off. We can't have it every single game. We want to manage the game as much as possible. Video Loading Video Unavailable Click to play Tap to play The video will auto-play soon8Cancel "We want to improve and get better. We never ever put targets on what we want to do, we never done it in the Championship and we won't start to do that now. There's plenty to improve on. The manager's spoken a lot about evolving year on year and we'll keep on doing that. We've got a wonderful manager who we all listen to every day and, like I said, we're a team who lives for the present and we'll see how the next one goes." Wolves now have back-to-back home fixtures at Molineux against Newcastle United on Sunday (kick-off 4.30pm) and Crystal Palace the following Friday (October 30, kick-off 8pm).
Max Kilman Wolves

#PLStories – #Nuno praises #MaxKilman contribution in Wolves win over Leeds #LUFC #WolvesFC

Nuno Espirito Santo was happy to single out Max Kilman for praise after his brilliant defensive showing in the win over Leeds United. The rookie defender was starting his second successive Premier League game at Elland Road and helped Wolverhampton Wanderers seal yet another clean sheet. Kilman was rewarded for his efforts with Sky Sports' man of the match award after winning 100 per cent of his defensive duels and providing the pass which allowed Raul Jimenez to win it for the visitors. And Nuno, who promoted to Kilman to the first team two years ago, was delighted with his defender on what was just his 14th senior appearance for Wolves. Video Loading Video Unavailable Click to play Tap to play The video will auto-play soon8Cancel "I think he played well," Nuno said. "In the second half he started really well, reading the lines and anticipating well. It was a good pass forward for the goal too. "Max, I think everybody knows, he was with the under-23s. His professional career was very premature. I think he has something. He works very hard, he knows what he has to improve and he’s become stronger as the time has gone by. "I’m proud of the answer he’s given today but the credit is for him. When your chance comes you have to respond and Max did that. Two seasons ago Max was a back-up and now he is ready to compete." Wolves are the first team to defeat Leeds at Elland Road this season with Fulham and Manchester City previously failing to take maximum points.
