Rui Patricio admits the chance to win trophies and work with Jose Mourinho led to him quitting Wolverhampton Wanderers for Roma. The Portugal number one’s Wolves exit was confirmed on Tuesday night after a fee in the region of £10million was agreed with the Italian club over the weekend. But it was the chance to work with football’s most famous Portuguese coach that lured Patricio to the Italian capital.
Rui Patricio added: “I’m delighted to have the chance to work with Mourinho. This is the first time I’ve worked with him, but he’s certainly one of the best in the world. It’s a dream for any player to work with him, and to be coached by him.”
Patricio won the Euros with Portugal in 2016 and seven cups with former club Sporting, but he hasn’t secured a league title during his career. Roma were well off the pace in Serie A last year, finishing seventh 29 points behind champions Inter Milan.
Rui Patricio added: “My main objective is to continue working the way I have done so far. I want to continue to improve, to help the team, and to fight to help us achieve our objectives, so to win silverware. I want to continue to develop, learn and win trophies. That’s why I’m here – because I dream of winning something.”
