Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Toti Gomes will spend next season on loan with Grasshoppers. Gomes spent last season on loan at the Swiss club and helped them win promotion back to the first division. He featured 36 times and scored twice, winning lots of admirers in the process, and Grasshoppers have convinced Wolves to loan him out again for the upcoming campaign.
Seyi Olofinjana technical director at Grasshoppers – said: “Toti was an important part of last season, which is why we are particularly pleased to be able to count on his valuable services in the coming season. It is very important for us to to have Toti back at GC. He has developed immensely in the last 12 months and we are grateful to Wolves for entrusting us with his further development.”
Gomes was one of five Wolves players loaned to Grasshoppers last season with Connor Ronan, Renat Dadashov, Leo Bonatini and Oskar Buur also spending time with the Swiss side.
Wolves technical director Scott Sellars said: “Relationships with clubs are really important and Grasshoppers is a club that we’ve got a relationship with. We know each other well and they know our players. What it helps with is that you will be on the same page. Sometimes you can find with loans that people can have different agendas. Some clubs say, ‘Yeah, he’ll play every game.’ But for an 18, 19-year-old to play every game is very difficult because of the demands of league football. Having those relationships is key and I think we’re getting better at it.”
Portuguese centre-back Gomes, 22, joined Wolves from Estoril in 2020 but hasn’t made an appearance for his parent club yet.
