Birmingham City have completed the signing of defender Dion Sanderson on a season-long loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers. Sanderson, who spent last season on loan at beaten League One play-off semi-finalists Sunderland, becomes the sixth new signing of the summer at St Andrew’s. Lee Bowyer confirmed after Saturday’s pre-season friendly victory against Cheltenham Town that a deal for Sanderson was close to being completed. Blues have now confirmed his arrival, with Sanderson following Chuks Aneke, Jordan Graham, Ryan Woods, Juan Familia-Castillo and Tahith Chong joining the club this summer – while Riley McGree re-signed until January.
Speaking after the win at Cheltenham,
Lee Bowyer said: “Sanderson obviously is coming in, he is a centre half, can cover at right back as well. Good player, I like the way he defends, he is comfortable on the ball as well. He has got a bit of everything. But his main job as a defender is to defend and he does that very well.”
