Rui Patricio’s transfer from Wolverhampton Wanderers to AS Roma has finally been confirmed. The Portugal international has been expected to depart Wolves since the end of last season and a deal was struck between the two clubs over the weekend. Patricio, 33, is set to be replaced at Molineux by compatriot Jose Sa, who will arrive from Olympiakos in the coming days. In an emotional farewell post
Rui Patricio said: “I would like to say thank you to all Wolves fans, players and staff for your love and support since the day that I enter to your ‘pack’. It means a lot to me, all that you have done for me and my family! I will never forget… It was a great pleasure to work in England, specifically Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, giving all of me always, in every single moment of my work! I’m thankful for the opportunity of growing together! Happy times come and go but the memories with Wolves will stay forever with me! It’s not goodbye, we will be forever connected.”
Wolves’ technical director
Scott Sellars said: “We would all like to thank Rui for everything he has done for Wolves during the past three seasons. He has been part of the best years of the club’s recent history, in terms of the success we have had, coming to us when we were newly promoted and helping the club to achieve two seventh place finishes. He’s been a fantastic servant to the club, but it’s a fantastic opportunity for him to experience a new club in a new league, and a good move for everybody involved. We certainly wish him the very best of luck at Roma.”
