Mason Greenwood has welcomed Jadon Sancho’s imminent arrival at Manchester United by opening up about the ‘competition’ he anticipates between him and the new signing. Greenwood looked in good spirits as he spoke to United’s in-house media, and is looking forward to playing with Sancho, who is on the verge of joining the club from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth £72.9 million (€85m).
Mason Greenwood said: “It’s got to be my biggest season yet. Obviously we brought a new player in and it’s good to have some good competition in the team. Obviously he’s a fantastic player and we’ve got to push more.”
The 19-year-old forward featured heavily for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side last season, providing 17 goal involvements in 52 appearances in all competitions during the 2020/21 campaign, and he’ll be hoping to have a bigger impact next season. Greenwood was forced to withdraw from Southgate’s squad and used the time off to recuperate and recharge his batteries ahead of what promises to be a potential watershed campaign for the club. Having missed out on silverware last season, United will be aiming to bring trophies to Old Trafford next season, something Greenwood is eager to accomplish.
Mason Greenwood said: “We need to win trophies and that’s our aim at the end of the season. Like last season we missed out slightly, but hopefully next season will be a lot better.”
