Bruno Lage believes Adama Traore will soon hit the goal trail after the Wolverhampton Wanderers winger’s gilt-edged miss versus Tottenham Hotspur. Spain international Traore produced another superb display against Spurs only for Dele Alli’s penalty to be the difference between the sides. Traore had the chance to level the match in the second half after being found by Ruben Neves but he couldn’t beat Hugo Lloris. It was a similar story to last weekend’s defeat to Leicester City where Traore also missed a big opportunity to open Wolves’ account under Lage. The new head coach is confident Traore will convert one of his chances soon though.
Bruno Lage said: “Adama did very well today. I think he played better than he did against Leicester. The way he played with his teammates, defended with his teammates, and he created a lot of chances. He knows he needs to improve some things in his game and we need to keep giving him confidence. I believe the goals will come.”
Traore, 25, has been the subject of intense transfer speculation during the summer and today’s opponents Spurs are among those said to be keen on signing him. But Lage is determined to hang onto a man who he rates as one of the ‘best players’ in his squad alongside Ruben Neves.
Bruno Lage said: “He’s important. You can see the chances he’s created in two games – a top player and a top man. He knows he needs to improve little things and from my side I will work hard with him to make him better. I have a good relationship with him and I don’t care if he’s going to be the best player in the league, I just care that in this moment we help him to grow up.”
