Everton represents a “very good opportunity” for Frank Lampard according to Ralph Hasenhuttl, with the Austrian stating that the Merseyside outfit are “a club with potential”. Lampard and Everton visit St Mary’s this weekend, taking charge of just his fourth game at the helm of the Goodison Park outfit. The former Derby and Chelsea boss took a year out of football after his dismissal at Stamford Bridge, with his opposite number at Saints believing the former England star made the right decision in showing patience in the job market. Speaking of Lampard, Hasenhuttl said: It’s not so easy to step back into the market in the Premier League because they’re are not so many jobs on the market. “Then you would want to have a club where you can develop things. “I think Frank, it seems, took his time to select well.” A common narrative surrounding Lampard’s time at the Blues has arisen since his departure in January 2021, with some saying that a job of the size and magnitude of a club like Chelsea was too much for the relatively inexperienced Lampard. It appears Hasenhuttl agrees with this assessment, stating: “It’s always a difficult thing when you immediately step into a very big club like he did with Chelsea. “It was his second job after Derby. “My feeling always that if you want to step into one of the best clubs in the world, you have to be on the highest level of your managing quality. Then it makes sense.” With speculation over his future rife due to comments made about potentially retiring in 2024, Hasenhuttl reflected that perhaps the chance to manage a big club had passed him by. “This was my way that I wanted to go. Maybe it will never happen, this is not a problem for me. “But if you want to go there, you should be on the highest level of your knowledge. “Then it’s always tough after Chelsea to pick the next one. “But I think for him, it was a very a good opportunity now. It’s a club with potential, with history and a good opportunity. I’m sure he’ll have a good impact.

#PLStories- Ralph Hasenhuttl reveals reasons for opening day Southampton defeat to Everton #SAINTSFC #EvertonFC

SAINTS are aiming to rectify the wrongs of the opening day of this season, a game that saw their next opponents Everton win 3-1. Adam Armstrong’s 22nd minute opener started the season off on good terms, but Richarlison’s early second-half equaliser left the hosts well poised to complete a comeback. Late goals from Abdoulaye Doucoure and Dominic Calvert-Lewin handed Everton all three points, and setting Saints’ season off with a damp squib. Since that opening day defeat it has been a campaign of contrasting fortunes for both Everton and Saints, with the south coast side entering the game in better shape than the Toffees. However the sting of defeat still lingers for Hasenhuttl, who is calling for his side to show an improved performance in comparison to their poor performance at Goodison Park back in August. "Yes, hopefully we are better now. "We want to show on Saturday that we have learned from this game, it was a tough game, the second half we have been killed a little bit by the atmosphere and the intensity of the game. "But at home, we want to do better and this is the goal at the weekend.” Whilst Hasenhuttl hinted that the return of fans might have impacted Saints in their previous game with Everton, he also shared that he felt having the fans back at St Mary’s was also a big boost, with the atmosphere at homes games carrying his side to victory in recent weeks. "We changed the way we played and we have definitely been more successful, with better results and very good games at home. "Yes, we can see the positive atmosphere around the club at the moment, with the results we have been delivering at the moment, it is deserved. "The fans want to see us and they are coming to see us, even against Coventry in the FA Cup we had a sold out stadium. "They enjoy what we are doing I think. It is always an enjoyable game to watch when we are playing, away or at home, there is always a lot of intensity in the game and you can definitely enjoy what you see. "This is the reason why they love to support us. “I think the fans are not stupid, to think we are now going here through these games. "It is not possible with less energy, less power, we need to have our best performances against these teams. "We need a very high speed in these games, like we have shown in the past with other games. If we do that, then we have a chance to win games, but only then."
Graham Potter Brighton

Graham Potter says he is happy to be working for “one of the best run clubs in the Premier League”. The Albion head coach has again been speculatively linked with Everton after Rafa Benitez was sacked yesterday. But there appears no reason for Albion fans to be concerned about him heading to Merseyside. Potter underlined that when asked about Everton today in his press conference ahead of tomorrow’s visit from Chelsea. Potter said: “It’s not nice when somebody loses their job. “I only met Rafa when we played Everton so I don’t know him that well but he came across as a real gentleman. I wish him well. “I can’t comment on speculation, on things that are out there in the newspapers or wherever. “I am focused on my job here. Repeat – happy here, very happy here with, in my opinion, one of the best run football clubs in the Premier League, with a fantastic owner, chairman, CEO, sports director, great people at the club, a nice environment to work in, an ambitious club. “I just get on with my job here and do my best.” Potter has guided Albion into the top half of the Premier League, helped by a recent win at Goodison. But he is keen to point out that progress has been a collective affair. He said: “The reality is I am at a really good football club who help me. “I am not here because I’m that good, it’s because I am at a good club. “I have good support, I have good people around me, I have people who allow me to do my job, that give me support, that give me trust. “These things are important. “There is an organisation around the club. “The reality of it is we are not as good as people think.
