Everton goodison park
The Spellow pub, located just 100 meters from the entrance to Goodison Park, has been put up for sale, marking a significant moment for the local community. The pub, which once thrived on matchday crowds, now stands with smashed windows and a partially missing sign, reflecting the uncertain future it faces following Everton’s departure from the historic stadium.
Publicans expressed their “anxiety” about the “tough” future they now faced.
The property is listed on ONYX Real Estate’s website for £250,000. Described as a “versatile property located in close proximity to the iconic Goodison Park and Anfield Football Stadium,” the former pub features a spacious ground floor bar and lounge area. Despite its potential, the pub’s current condition highlights the challenges it faces in attracting new ownership and reviving its former glory.
Officers and dogs were seen going in and out of the premises, with a number being seen searching inside the pub itself. Armed officers were also seen shining torches into a mini-van at the front of the premises. They were looking for a wanted man but didn’t succeed in locating him during the incident.
The Spellow’s previous owner, Stephen Charlesworth, has been in the news for various reasons. In December 2019, he was fined £20,000 for breaching fire safety regulations at another of his businesses in Walton. More recently, in April, Liverpool City Council stripped one of his city centre premises of its licence, leading to its immediate closure.
The pub’s current state is a stark contrast to only a few months ago when it was filled with Everton fans celebrating the club’s last match at Goodison Park. Now, the once vibrant establishment is left with broken windows and a beer garden littered with rubbish, symbolizing the end of an era and the beginning of an uncertain chapter for this local landmark.
