Richarlison

#PLStories- #JackStephens annoyed by ‘sloppy’ Southampton goal which sparked Everton’s revival #EVERTONFC #SAINTSFC

FRUSTRATED Jack Stephens described as “really sloppy” the goal which sparked Everton’s revival against Saints on Saturday. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men were in a strong position having gone in at half-time with a 1-0 lead on Merseyside, thanks to Adam Armstrong’s 22nd-minute finish. But the tide turned within two minutes of the restart. After Che Adams headed away a Blues corner, Andros Townsend’s header allowed Richarlison the opportunity to drift away from his marker and finish from close range in simplistic fashion. With their tails up, Everton went on to seal a 3-1 victory thanks to Abdoulaye Doucoure’s superb finish and a late header from Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Assessing the contest, Stephens told the Daily Echo: “We started really well, got the goal and I thought we played quite well first half and we were frustrating them. “But then we just made it too easy for them to get back into the game. We came out in the second half and just gave them an opportunity to give the crowd a boost. “That early goal in the second half – it just gave them a massive boost and it’s just really poor from our point of view and we are really disappointed.” Quizzed about Richarlison’s leveller, he added: “It was really sloppy from us. The way we came out in the second half was not good enough. We’ve got to defend better than that. “It’s the second phase corner – it’s just nothing. We have to deal with that and it’s not good enough, it’s far too easy for them to get back in the game. “Then their second goal, the lad’s taken it well and it’s a cracking finish but again, it’s disappointing. It’s a shot just on the edge of the box, it’s disappointing we couldn’t get a block on that.” Richarlison also scored when the sides met at Goodison Park back in March, the Toffees triumphing 1-0 on that occasion. Defeat means Saints are still yet to win an opening Premier League fixture since 2013.
James Ward Prowse

#PLStories- #RalphHasenhuttl says #JamesWardProwse will be fit to feature against Everton #SAINTSFC #EVERTONFC

BOSS Ralph Hasenhuttl revealed skipper James Ward-Prowse had been in training with Saints all week and would be available for selection at Everton on Saturday. The England midfielder has been struggling with a knee problem which had prevented him playing in the St Mary’s side’s pre-season games. But Hasenhuttl confirmed the England midfielder would be fit to face the Toffees in their season opener at Goodison Park. Asked about Ward-Prowse ahead of the trip to Merseyside, Hasenhuttl said: “He is going to be okay. “He trained for the whole week and I am looking forward to having him back on Saturday.” Only youngster Will Smallbone remains out for Hasenhuttl’s side with a long-term knee injury at present. Assessing the squad as a whole, the Austrian boss said: “Everybody is fit. After this hard and tough pre-season, this is a good signal. “We worked good with them, had a good balance with pushing them hard and also recovering in the right moments. “The worst you can get is if you are training very hard for four or five weeks and then get an injury in the last week, so touch wood, that did not happen.”
Bernand

#PLStories- #Bernard signs for Sharjah FC in UAE #EVERTONFC

Bernard says farewellSharjah FC have confirmed the signing of Everton winger Bernard. The UAE Pro League outfit have announced that the Brazilian has signed a 'two-season' contract. After his move to the UAE was confirmed, the 28-year-old was quick to thank Everton fans and current and former teammates. However, he also left a cryptic message about stuff that has 'happened behind the scenes'. On his latest Instragram post - a graphic of himself with the words 'Thanks Everton' in bold letters - he said: "First of all I would like to thank the fans, and all the players who were with me and always supported me at all times, since I arrived I was always well received and treated as if I was really a member of the family. "Unfortunately you who support me and not those who appear here to spread the words of hate DON'T KNOW HALF of what happens behind the scenes, I wanted to be more clear but unfortunately TODAY I can't, the message I leave today is of gratitude and you will always be special. "Everton is GIANT, has an incredible history and has the structure and capability to return to be and to conquer everything that it has been and conquered. "I'm satisfied about how much I dedicated myself and did my best to be the best of me in all training and games, and I ask God to continue blessing all the friends I left at the club and hoping that Everton returns to the glories that it deserves."Credit: Bernard / Instagram
Jordan Pickford

#PLStories- #TheoWalcott heaps praises for England star #JordanPickford #EvertonFC #SaintsFC

SAINTS star Theo Walcott heaped praise on England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford with the Three Lions yet to concede a goal at Euro 2020. Pickford again pulled off some remarkable saves during his side’s 2-0 Euro 2020 last 16 victory over Germany. And Walcott, who played 47 times for England at senior level, was full of praise for the Everton stopper. He told talkSPORT: “It’s all about clean sheets in tournament football. “I’ve been really pleased with Jordan and he had a lot of people on his back about being too involved in the game. “I think he’s taken a step back and started to handle the defence and not play the occasion. He’s leading on the field. “When you’ve got a goalkeeper behind you like that, it helps. We are very difficult to break down. “Jordan has always been a resilient young man and dealt with pressures and I’m sure now he’s grown his hair a little bit more he’s probably not hearing as much. “He’s brilliant. Always done very well for England and Everton. Having (Robin) Olsen, he’s a very experienced goalkeeper, it has probably done him some good.” While the win over Germany will live long in the memory, Pickford himself knows it must be put to the back of the minds of the players as they prepare to take on Ukraine in Rome for a place in the semi-finals. “We’ve got to enjoy the moment,” he said post-match. “But we’ve got to get prepared right, recover well and train well. Every team in this competition is a good side, so we’ve got to be on our A game and prepare well for Saturday. “We’ve had the opportunity to play four games at Wembley and the atmosphere of 45,000 fans today was amazing. “I think that just gives us the desire on Saturday, it is another opportunity to come back to Wembley. Come Saturday we will be prepared for what they put up against us.”
