Jack Grealish
Jack Grealish played the hero for the Blues as they ended Crystal Palace’s impressive 19-game unbeaten streak with a dramatic 2-1 victory at Hill Dickinson Stadium. Grealish’s goal came three minutes into added time, sealing the win after Daniel Munoz initially put Oliver Glasner’s side ahead in the first half. Iliman Ndiaye had equalized for Palace from the penalty spot, following a foul by Maxence Lacroix on substitute Tim Iroegbunam.
Chris Beesley said: “I’m just glad it was him that got the last-minute winner today – other than myself, of course! I think we’ve been due a last-minute winner, especially at home.”
Michael Ball added: “We’ve been pushing teams all the way up until the 90th minute and today up to the 110th minute or something like that. Garner was also cautioned after Pino had refused to move back 10-yards when Everton had been awarded a free-kick by the centre circle. I don’t think it was a booking for me. Definitely a booking for the other fella, but something as simple as that can definitely get the crowd going and get them raring.”
Ball continued: “You see how passionate the manager was on the side. Little things like that can definitely put us on the front foot. I’m not saying that’s what it was, but definitely little things like that. I think we’ve played better at home this season than we have away. That’s ultimately down to the new feeling of the ground and the fans do get behind you.”
He concluded: “As soon as you start getting on the front foot, it doesn’t even have to be creating chances or anything like that. It could just be pressing, tackling and stuff like that. When the crowd is with you, they are that extra man. I know it sounds cliché, but they really are.”
The victory not only marked a significant end to Crystal Palace’s unbeaten run but also highlighted the Blues’ strong home form this season. Despite some draws, the team remains unbeaten at home, showcasing their ability to play compelling football. The passionate support from the fans at Hill Dickinson Stadium has been a crucial factor in their performances, providing the team with an extra edge during matches. As the Premier League season progresses, the Blues will look to build on this momentum and continue their impressive home record.
