Iliman Ndiaye
Iliman Ndiaye delivered an outstanding performance for Everton in their 2-2 draw against Manchester United at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Senegalese forward’s brilliant left-footed volley brought Everton level, and his powerful run, which was halted by a poor challenge from Bruno Fernandes, led to their second equalizer. The match was part of the Premier League Summer Series, where much of the focus had been on United’s high-profile signings, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. Despite Everton finishing winless in the series, Ndiaye’s performance highlighted his potential to excel in the upcoming Premier League season.
Iliman Ndiaye said: “I’m not usually one who wants to score too many goals in pre-season, but now it feels good to be able to help the team get a result. Obviously, on a personal note, it’s always nice to score goals and put the work in, so it felt good. I wouldn’t say I put pressure (on myself), but I expect a lot from myself. I want to score a lot of goals and assists, which, as I always say, is what an attacking player should do. You want to do those things to help the team win – and that’s what everyone expects from me.”
Everton’s journey in the Premier League Summer Series was marked by a mix of challenges and memorable experiences. While the team did not secure a win, the draw against Manchester United provided a positive note after losses to West Ham United and Bournemouth. Ndiaye’s comments reflect a sense of determination and ambition, both personally and for the team, as they prepare for the new season.
Ndiaye said: “I think overall it was a pleasing result. Obviously, we started the tournament not very well and today we needed to change that and put on a good performance for ourselves and the fans.”
The support for Everton was evident throughout their tour in the United States, with fans showing strong backing in Atlanta, Chicago, and New Jersey. Ndiaye expressed his pride in the global support for Everton, highlighting the passionate fanbase that follows the club worldwide.
Ndiaye, speaking to evertontv, added: “It makes me really proud. When I first came, I didn’t know Everton fans were like this all over the world. So, yes, it’s amazing.”
As Everton returns to the UK, they are set to face Italian giants Roma in a friendly at the new Hill Dickinson Stadium. This match, scheduled for Saturday, serves as the final test before their Premier League campaign kicks off against Leeds United on August 18. The upcoming fixture against Roma promises to be a significant event, as both clubs are owned by The Friedkin Group, adding an extra layer of interest to the encounter.
