#PLStories – #RalphHasenhuttl reveals his admiration for new signing #Lyanco #SaintsFC

RALPH Hasenhuttl eases early expectations on big character and “long-term project” Lyanco, and insists: “He will definitely make a lot of games with us, a good signing for the future.” The 24-year-old Brazilian centre-back arrived from Italian Serie A side Torino towards the end of the summer transfer window, in place of Jannik Vestergaard, but don’t necessarily expect to see him in immediate action. He has already looked to make himself a fan favourite with regular social media posts of him enjoying life at his new club, although supporters will want to see his passion matched by on-pitch performances. Saints manager Hasenhuttl has so far opted for Jack Stephens and Mohammed Salisu as his two centre-back positions, while Jan Bednarek has been reduced to an appearance from the substitutes bench. But he is willing to learn and all the rest he has to learn, he will. Very good character and yeah, big personality and very happy to have him here. “Ori is at the moment our translator, my Italian is not that good but I try to speak with him, especially in a football business there is some words I don’t know. preparative 🙏🏼🦍❤️🤍 @SouthamptonFC pic.twitter.com/AFg8hLcymF — Lyanco Vojnovic (@Lyanco) September 8, 2021 “But yeah he will learn English and he will definitely make a lot of games with us, a good signing for the future.” Lyanco made 23 appearances in Italy’s top-flight last season, with his last match coming in a 0-7 demolition at home to AC Milan in May. He has experience playing in a central-defensive trio at Torino and after Hasenhuttl switched to a similar shape during the Manchester United draw, perhaps when the Austrian boss next opts to move to that formation will be when Lyanco gets some action in a Saints shirt.

#PLStories – Southampton manager #RalphHasenhuttl reveals what needs to change to improve the points tally #SaintsFC

SAINTS have picked up two points from their first three fixtures of the 2021-22 Premier League campaign, but manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has seen more positives insisting: “The way we played or we created chances and scored goals was good, I think.” The Austrian manager has previewed Saturday’s clash with David Moyes’ West Ham, who, after qualifying for the Europa League last season, are now second in the table with seven points from three. The Hammers secured that qualification and defeated Saints 3-0 on the final day of last season, with Pablo Fornals hitting a brace. Michail Antonio, who was on loan at Saints between 2009-2010, has stolen the show with four goals and a flurry of forward action already this campaign as Moyes’ rejuvenated outfit cannot be stopped by opposition defences. Read more Ralph Hasenhuttl opens on strict transfer policy under Gao Hasenhuttl: Theo Walcott and Stuart Armstrong out West Ham Ralph Hasenhuttl concerned amid international quarantines They've already put ten goals away this season, but have not kept a clean sheet themselves either. Speaking ahead of the clash, Hasenhuttl said: “Yeah, I spoke last season about that (Moyes’ West Ham turnaround). We lost against them in the final game. “We know the strength they have, they have very good individual qualities in the team but also a clear and very efficient way of playing football – this is the reason why they’re so successful.” Striker Michail Antonio is one of many stars in the Hammers side who is bang-in-form (Pic: PA) On the other hand, Saints were handed a tough start to the league season on paper and it has proven to be so, managing a draw with Manchester United and rescuing another with a last-minute penalty at Newcastle. Only Adam Armstrong, Moi Elyounoussi and James Ward-Prowse have got on the scoresheet for Saints so far this season – after Che Adams’ strike was ruled to be a Fred own goal – and someone will need to step into the breech and provide regular strikes. Having conceded six in three also, Hasenhuttl reflected on his team’s performances, saying: “The way we played or we created chances and scored goals was good, I think. Our game with the ball was very good. “Our game against the ball also, but the amount of goals we conceded in the first three games was above the average we try to have, so far. “And this is what we have to change, this is a tricky topic for the last weeks – it’s getting more and more difficult in the Premier League to have clean sheets, you see it every weekend. James Ward-Prowse's last gasp spot-kick secured a point at Newcastle (Pic: PA) “Teams are getting stronger and it’s not so easy. A few chances are enough for the opponent to score and this is what makes it so difficult but, especially in the last game, we normally should’ve won it and we had the bigger chances. “Conceding in the end a goal, what is absolutely to defend. And this is what we have to discuss.” Saints vs West Ham kicks off at 3pm on Saturday 11 September, at St Mary’s – in the first domestic action since deadline day and the international break.
Tino Livramento

#PLStories – #TinoLivramento reveals reasons for leaving Chelsea and joining Southampton #ChelseaFC #SaintsFC

SAINTS star Tino Livramento continued his rapid recent rise with a debut for England's under-21s. The 18-year-old completed a £5million move from Chelsea to St Mary's over the summer, and instantly broke into the starting line-up. He has not missed a minute of Premier League action this season, despite having previously never played a senior competitive match before in his career. Livramento has shone in his three outings so far, his early form earning him a call-up into Lee Carsley's England under-21s squad. And the right-back, who had made appearances for England from under-15s through to under-19s, now has his first cap for the level immediately below the senior side. Livramento came off the bench to replace PSV's Noni Madueke for the final seven minutes as Carsley's Young Lions kicked off their Euro 2023 qualification campaign with a 2-0 win over Kosovo in Milton Keynes. England sealed victory thanks to goals from Rhian Brewster and Cole Palmer. Speaking to the England football website about his recent rise, Livramento said: “Pulling on the England shirt means everything (to me). “When you are young, you dream of doing things like this as a footballer and right now it (playing for England) is the biggest stage I can go to. "I am proud that I am representing my family and myself. “Captaining England (at under-18s level) was probably the proudest moment for me so far. It tops everything. "Just walking out there and not only playing but being captain brings out a different side to me that I don’t usually bring when I am not captain. "I was talking more and it was a good experience because I think it has brought a different side to my game that maybe I was missing. “It was the proudest moment for me so far.” Discussing his first call-up to the under-21s, Livramento added: "To get to that next step with England was quite a surprise but it was a massive thing for me and my family. “It has obviously been a crazy couple of months but even though it is a big thing to be playing in the Premier League, at Southampton it has been easy to settle in because of everyone there and the coaches and playing staff. “Getting the England call-up was even more of a massive thing for me. So I am trying to take everything in my stride and keep moving forward.” Quizzed on his decision to leave Chelsea for Saints over the summer, Livramento explained: "Every single year, I have a routine of setting goals and there is only so much you can do at youth level. “Me and my dad sat down in May and we spoke and thought the next step would be for me to push into a Premier League team and we felt the better route for me was to leave Chelsea. “It wasn’t easy obviously as I have been a fan for as long as I can remember and been a player there since I was seven. “I never thought that I would be playing straight away (at Saints) but you have to take everything in your stride and you cannot hide when you get that opportunity. You have to take it. I hope I can keep doing that. “At Southampton, luckily with the manager, the staff and the players, it has come together quite nicely.” Livramento will be hoping to keep his place in Saints' starting XI for the visit of West Ham United in the Premier League on Saturday (3pm).
Oriol Romeu Danny Ings

#PLStories – #OriolRomeu admits that life has changed after he became a father #SaintsFC

ORIOL Romeu revealed how having new-born baby Zac “couldn’t be any better” as he balances football with feeding times and nappy changes. He revealed how he had been able to help care for his son overnight during the off-season, but was now back to a regular sleeping pattern as the 2021-22 campaign got underway. And the proud new dad insisted he would not change a minute, as he provides for Zac and his family. He told the Daily Echo: “It’s been great. It’s one of the things we as people are always thinking ‘is that going to happen one day?’ And he finally arrived. “We are very happy, very pleased and everything is going well so far. “I am trying to learn as the days go by. It’s a continuous learning thing, changing and then growing so quickly – but trying to get next to him and helping wherever I can. “It’s a bit harder now because he is sleeping less. “Once you get home, your wife or girlfriend is telling you to do things that you haven’t done for the whole morning – but you have been running around the pitch, so you are also tired. “Trying to find a balance is difficult but we are very happy, very pleased and everything is going according to plan – it couldn’t be any better.” Sleep is essential for any elite athlete to perform at their best – and Romeu is thankful to his girlfriend for allowing him to get the correct amount, while Zac is up at night. “The first few weeks when he arrived, I was trying to be up from 4-5am, we were doing half a night each,” said the Saints star, who this month celebrates his 30th birthday. “But I just say to her ‘I need the sleep’. If I’m not getting the sleep, I just feel tired everywhere. “But at that time I was still injured, so I could still do it and over the holidays I could still do it. “Now we are playing and training, we need to get these seven or eight hours. As soon as I wake up, I try to compensate with what I haven’t done overnight. “Luckily she is good and she is accepted – otherwise I will be in trouble!” Asked whether Zac’s arrival had given him an extra incentive to perform and make him proud, the midfielder said: “Yeah, I agree. “It also helps you to think of something else, otherwise it was always football, football, football. “Too much thinking of something is sometimes a bit negative. You get over-frustrated whenever you lose a game and you are not performing as much as you want. “Having your kid, when you go back home and he smiles – everything just goes away. That extra companion and extra thing to think of or be focused on is really helpful.” On the field, the former Barcelona and Chelsea man has started all three Premier League contests this season. Saints lost their opening fixture against Everton before draws against Manchester United and Newcastle before the international break. Assessing the start to the season Romeu said: “We’ve got points but we’ve got no wins, so it’s a bit 50-50. “The feeling is that we are getting better – the game against Newcastle overall, I think we were the better team, but we didn’t win it. “Against Man United we competed really well. We held them. “That’s a good sign and there’s positive things but there’s no wins and wins give you confidence, wins give you the right atmosphere to work and keep believing in what the team is doing. “Hopefully the wins come soon.” Saints are set to host West Ham in the Premier League on Saturday.
Graham Potter Brighton

#PLStories- Brighton’s #PercyTau agrees move to Al Ahly #BHAFC

Percy Tau has agreed a permanent move to Egyptian club Al Ahly on undisclosed terms. The transfer will be formally concluded once the transfer window reopens in Egypt and is also subject to international clearance. Albion head coach Graham Potter said: “I have really enjoyed working with Percy. He is very professional and extremely popular with the rest of the squad, but at this stage of his career he wants to be playing regularly and we fully understand that. “This move gives him the opportunity to do that and he is joining one of Africa’s top clubs. On behalf of everyone at the club I wish him well for the future.”
Tino Lavramento

#PLStories – #TinoLavramento joins Saints and reveals reason for joining them #SaintsFC

NEW Saints acquisition Tino Lavramento tells how he had transfer options but insists “to choose Southampton was sort of a no-brainer.” The 18-year-old dynamic defender departs Chelsea with a big reputation in search of first team football, joining south-coast Saints on a five-year contract. He featured heavily in Premier League 2 last season for the Blues’ under-23s, contributing goals and assists up the other end, and follows in the footsteps of Dynel Simeu who joined the club from Cobham in July. Speaking to the club website, number 21 Lavramento said: “I've been discussing with my dad about what we thought was best for my future. We felt like this was the right time for it to happen and for me to move on. “To have interest from a few top clubs, to choose Southampton was sort of a no-brainer. They are a solid Premier League club and the manager was quite a big factor as to why I wanted to come here and why I wanted to play for Southampton.” Reports suggested he was linked to the likes of Red Bull Leipzig, AC Milan and Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion. He’s yet to make a senior appearance in his young career but did impress enough to make the bench in the league back in May, when Chelsea played Manchester City and Arsenal.

Alireza Jahanbakhsh has revealed the key role Feyenoord manager Arne Slot played in him returning to the Netherlands. Read more: Alireza Jahanbakhsh joins Feyenoord Slot was assistant manager at AZ Alkmaar to John van den Brom during Jahanbakhsh's time at the club. But the Iranian international revealed that when Slot expressed his interest in signing him for Feyenoord, he was determined to make the move happen. He told the club's official website: "During my time at AZ as assistant coach, Arne Slot was one of the people who helped me to become a better player. "So when he called and asked if I wanted to come to Feyenoord, I told him I was going to do everything I could to make this transfer. I had no doubts." Feyenoord’s sporting director Frank Arnesen believes Jahanbakhsh could become a valuable player for them. He said: 'With Alireza we add the desired offensive reinforcement to the selection. “A player who has proven to achieve a high return for several seasons. “Moreover, he is now in the phase of his career where he can quickly be of enormous added value to us."
Jannik Vestergaard

#PLStories – #JanBednarek appreciates the qualities of #JannikVestergaard in Denmark and Southampton team #SaintsFC

JAN Bednarek described as “a really intelligent player” his Saints central-defensive partner Jannik Vestergaard - as the great Dane looks to keep alive his Euro 2020 dream on Saturday. Vestergaard has featured in all of Denmark’s group fixtures at the international tournament and will be looking to line-up against Wales in the last-16 in Amsterdam. The 28-year-old played the full 90 minutes at Parken Stadium on Monday, as the Danes qualified for the knockout rounds after a dramatic 4-1 victory over Russia. Bednarek’s Poland suffered elimination from the competition after picking up just one point from three group games. But, speaking before the tournament, Bednarek outlined how he felt he could improve as a player at Saints lining up alongside Vestergaard. Asked about working alongside Vestergaard by the Daily Echo, Bednarek said: “I think he’s a really intelligent player. He has a lot of qualities with the ball. “He can really make great passes in behind their defensive line. “I think I can improve by the side of him and I can really learn from him. That’s the most important thing. “We just try together new things and try to improve and learn from him.” Vestergaard played 30 times in the Premier League for Saints last season, having been named in Ralph Hasenhuttl’s starting XI on 29 occasions. The Dane has been linked with a move away from the south coast in the past, but became a regular starter under Hasenhuttl last campaign. Vestergaard joined Saints for £18million from Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach in 2018. It is understood his current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2022. Asked back in April whether he had made it clear to Vestergaard how much he wanted him to stay, Hasenhuttl replied: “I think he feels at the moment, as a leader on the pitch. “When he performs well and shows the form he has shown after the summer break, where he was physically very strong, then he can be definitely one of the better centre-backs in the Premier League. “This is very helpful for us and he knows this. I think in the end, he knows that we are happy he is here. “We didn’t always have such a good time together. He was also struggling, like we all have during these two-and-a-half years since I’ve been here. “But especially this season he has shown some very good qualities and has developed his game massively. He still knows that we want to have him here. “We are in negotiations with him and, hopefully, we will find a solution that is best for both of us.”

#PLStories – #KayneRamsay happy to leave Southampton on loan #SaintsFC

DETERMINED Kayne Ramsay insisted now was the time for him to “show everyone what I can do” after joining Crewe Alexandra on a season-long loan deal. The 20-year-old full-back signed a two-year contract extension at Saints in February, but is looking to get more game time under his belt with the Alex next season. Speaking about the deal, he told the Crewe website: “I am extremely happy. I have been wanting to do this for a while now. “I have been dying to get out and get minutes and show everyone what I can do in, hopefully, a season of 40-plus games and get cracking to be honest.” Right-back Ramsay progressed through the ranks at Saints having joined from Chelsea in 2017. He made two senior appearances for the club during the 2020-21 campaign. He played 90 minutes during the infamous 9-0 defeat at Manchester United in February, before coming off the bench in Saints’ 3-0 FA Cup quarter-final win at Bournemouth. Ramsay also played 11 times for the club’s B Team in Premier League Two, as well as twice in the EFL Trophy. But the Londoner believes a campaign in the cut-and-thrust of League One will help enhance his career. “When I was looking at options, when I was speaking to Southampton, they said this was the best club for you to go and develop – especially as a young full-back,” he said. “This past year I have been in and around Southampton’s first team. “I think I’ve learned the other side of the game, the patience and to deal with certain pressures and the different sides of the game when you are not playing and how to deal with it. “Now I think I’ve actually just got to go and play. I am at that age where it’s important I go and get minutes in the league. “This is the right league for me. If I’d have gambled and went to the Championship and maybe didn’t play – where I can go to League One and show what I can do and see if I am able to cope with it.” Ramsay added: “In the past I have made mistakes where I could have looked back and think ‘I shouldn’t have done that there’ in these past two years. “Now you’ve just got to focus, you’ve only got one chance at this and you’ve just got to take it.”
Stuart Armstrong Southampton

#PLStories – #StuartArmstrong reveals his confidence about prospects of #Scotland in #Euro2021 #SaintsFC

STUART Armstrong believes Scotland are "steadily getting better" and insists "it's all to play for" for his nation tomorrow. Scotland host Croatia in their final Euro 2020 Group D match at Hampden Park, still with a chance of progressing to the knockout stages. Steve Clarke's side were beaten 2-0 by Czech Republic in their opening fixture, before producing an impressive display to draw 0-0 with England at Wembley Stadium on Friday night. All eyes will now be on Hampden Park tomorrow (8pm), with Scotland still able to finish on four points, which should be enough to see them qualify in second or third place in the group. The Tartan Army are currently bottom of the pile with one point, but only behind Croatia on goal difference. Top-two England and Czech Republic face off at Wembley at the same time, both currently on four points. "After the first game there was obviously a lot of disappointment surrounding the result," said Saints midfielder Armstrong. "So we knew we had to get something from the game (against England), be that one point or three points. So to come away with what we set out to achieve was obviously massive for us. "It sets us up for the final game of the tournament, keeps us in it. "I think we're quietly sticking to our gameplan, building on our past two performances. We're steadily getting better. "It's a simple game on Tuesday - it's a must-win for both teams. So it should prove exciting, it should be open, at times. It's all to play for." He added: "There's a lot of expectation on the game. I don't think there's too much depth to the thinking behind it. "It's simple for both teams. They'll both be wanting to win and a draw is no good to anyone. It's pretty straightforward thinking." Armstrong started the opening game against Czech Republic before coming off the bench for the final 15 minutes against England. Discussing his own performances so far, the 29-year-old said: "The Czech Republic game was difficult. They defended really well and were man-marking almost. So it was difficult and quite frustrating. "Wembley was obviously open and it was a different type of role. It was to bring the ball out of pressure and give that little bit of rest. "At these big tournaments you just need to help the team in any way you can. Any minute I do play on the pitch, I'll be aiming to do that." Asked if he feels he's done enough to earn a start against Croatia, Armstrong added: "I don't think we think like that as players. I think because it's a massive tournament and it's a squad, when you do get the opportunity to play, you do everything you can for the team in any way you can." Che Adams earned praise for his performance against England on Friday, receiving a standing ovation from the Scotland fans. And Saints team-mate Armstrong was also impressed by the striker's display. He said: "I thought he was excellent at Wembley. A really good performance. A hard performance against good quality defence. "So it was really pleasing for me to see him perform so well. I've obviously seen that every week at Southampton, so to get on the pitch together would be nice and to link up. "As long as the ball goes in the net, I'm not too bothered!"

#PLStories- #AndrewCrofts becomes Brighton under-23’s head coach #BHAFC

The 37-year-old rejoined Albion in July 2019 to combine a playing role with coaching duties for the under-23s.  However, after under-23's manager Simon Rusk left in January to join National League side Stockport County as their manager, Crofts and Shannon Ruth stepped up to become the interim head coaches. But after guiding Albion to a ninth-place in the BPL 2, Crofts has been named as head coach. While, Ruth has been promoted to senior professional development coach and will continue to work with Crofts.  During his time with Albion the former Welsh international played 125 games in his two spells on the South Coast, scoring 13 goals. He also won 29 senior caps for Wales. Albion's technical director Dan Ashworth said: “We’re delighted that Crofty has accepted this position. “He is passionate about coaching and developing young players and this is a great opportunity for him.  “Shannon will now have a wider coaching brief having previously worked with our younger goalkeepers and we wish them every success for the future.”
Sean Dyche Burnley

#PLStories – #RobbieBrady admits regret on career with Burnley #BurnleyFC

BURNLEY have confirmed Robbie Brady is leaving the club at the end of his contract. The winger – the Clarets' record signing when he arrived from Norwich in January 2017 – departs having made 87 appearances for the club. The 29-year-old has however seen his time at the club blighted by injury, a serious knee issue derailing his progress after helping Burnley qualify for Europe back in 2018. Despite his frustrations, Brady has nothing but kind words for all those he is leaving behind at Turf Moor. “I would have loved if things had gone better at times, because I always backed myself to do well and help the lads out wherever I can," he said. "It was difficult in that respect but it's been brilliant and a big learning curve for me. “I just want to thank the lads and thank everyone for giving me this opportunity. I learned a hell of a lot over the last few years and a lot about myself. “I also want to thank the fans for making me feel so welcome. It's such a family club and they get right behind the lads as we've seen over the last few seasons. “It's been a phenomenal time and I'm so happy to say that I feel I have played a part in Burnley's history, which I'll always look back fondly on. “I have had a lot of good times - and a few bad times personally - but these things happen and I wish the lads all the best. I'm sure they're going to kick on again like we have done over the last number of years. I'm sad to go but it's a part of my career I look back on fondly, along with the people I've met.”
