David Moyes
Everton manager David Moyes addressed the media in his pre-match press conference, discussing the club’s summer transfer strategies and the futures of key players Jack Grealish and Idrissa Gueye. As Everton prepares for their upcoming Premier League match against Crystal Palace, Moyes provided insights into the team’s current standing and potential European competition qualifications. The Toffees are currently 10th in the league, just two points shy of eighth place, which could secure them a spot in the Conference League, and a further point away from seventh, potentially leading to Europa League qualification.
David Moyes said: “I think I’m pretty set in my mind over what I’d like to do and what we should be doing. Obviously, if things went our way and we found ourselves with more games like Crystal Palace have had all year then we might need to think slightly different, but I don’t think so. I think the one thing you do want when you do get into situations is that you really need young players who you can go to and have on the bench and in some games bring them through. It’s something that we have to try and rebuild again.”
Moyes emphasized the importance of integrating young talent into the squad, a strategy he believes is crucial as Everton aims to compete in more fixtures, similar to Crystal Palace’s current season in the Conference League. The manager also touched upon the potential return of Jack Grealish, who is currently on loan from Manchester City. Despite Grealish’s popularity among Everton fans, Moyes indicated that discussions about his future are yet to commence.
David Moyes said: “There are no talks at the moment because we’re waiting to see but his foot is improving greatly. He’s out now of the boot that he’s been wearing and he’s doing a lot more training. There’s no further news on Jack at the moment, but I think everybody knows Jack – he’s loved wherever he goes and he’s certainly loved here.”
Regarding Idrissa Gueye, Moyes confirmed that the player is recovering from an injury sustained during the match against Manchester City. Although Gueye is not yet training, Moyes is optimistic about his return. Gueye, who signed a one-year contract with an option for an additional year, has not had his future discussed openly by the club.
David Moyes said: “He’s fine. He’s not training yet but he’s fine, it’s not a serious injury, so we hope he’ll be back soon.”
David Moyes added: “We’re not really discussing too much at the moment regarding any of the players’ contracts. We’ve been tending to do our work behind the scenes quite quietly and nudge things along and when we’ve got something to tell you, we’ll certainly let you know.”
As Everton looks forward to their match against Crystal Palace, Moyes remains focused on strategic planning and player development to strengthen the squad for future competitions.
