Roberto De Zerbi
Tottenham Hotspur is grappling with a significant injury crisis as they approach the final three matches of the Premier League season. Manager Roberto De Zerbi is hopeful of regaining some key players to aid in their battle against relegation. The injury woes have been a major concern since De Zerbi’s arrival, with several crucial players sidelined, including Mohammed Kudus, Cristian Romero, and Xavi Simons.
Roberto De Zerbi said: “No. I’m happy because we are working well with all players. Another very important week. We have no problems.”
The manager’s optimism was evident after a recent win at Villa Park, where he reported no new injuries. However, the club’s treatment room remains busy, with nine players currently out of action.
Roberto De Zerbi said: “About Solanke, he’s improving very quickly. I don’t know, for this game, I don’t know if he can be available. We hope for the next game in Stamford Bridge.”
Dominic Solanke has been plagued by injuries throughout the season, and while his recovery is progressing, his availability for the upcoming match against Leeds United remains uncertain. The striker’s return is more likely for the game at Chelsea on May 19.
Roberto De Zerbi said: “I’m thinking about James Madison because I’m watching a top, top player. Maybe he’s not ready yet to play, but as a physical condition, not for the rhythm, for the intensity of the game. We are playing in the Premier League, the most difficult league in terms of intensity and rhythm.”
James Maddison, who has been recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, is back in full training. Although he has been included on the bench for recent matches, his participation has been limited. De Zerbi hinted at the possibility of Maddison getting some minutes against Leeds.
Roberto De Zerbi said: “No, Vicario is not ready yet. I don’t know what will be the plan but he’s suffering because he would like to help his teammates but he’s not available yet.”
Guglielmo Vicario, recovering from hernia surgery, is another player whose return is uncertain. The club had hoped for his comeback within a month, but time is running out for a season return.
Xavi Simons and Cristian Romero are among those whose injuries have severely impacted the team’s performance. Simons suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury, while Romero’s knee injury has sidelined him for the remainder of the season. Mohammed Kudus also faced a setback in his recovery from a quad tendon injury, ruling him out for the rest of the season.
Roberto De Zerbi said: “I started not with too big luck! Yes, Kudus was in my head a crucial player, especially for the position, but we have to look forward anyway.”
Dejan Kulusevski and Ben Davies are working towards their respective recoveries, with Kulusevski optimistic about returning for the World Cup. Meanwhile, Wilson Odobert is undergoing rehabilitation following surgery for a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.
As Tottenham battles to maintain their Premier League status, the return of key players could be pivotal. However, the timing of these recoveries remains critical, with the season’s end fast approaching.
