Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

#PLStories – #OleGunnarSolkjaer provides injury update ahead of big clash against Arsenal #ArsenalFC #MUFC

Ole Gunnar Solkjaer has confirmed Manchester United will be without one key player for Sunday's clash with Arsenal. The Gunners head to Old Trafford looking to respond to consecutive Premier League defeats at the hands of Manchester City and Leicester City respectively. Though, in the last couple of weeks, Arsenal have won both of their Europa League games, beating Rapid Wien and Dundalk in their opening group stage outings. But they aren't the only ones to get off to a flying start in Europe, Manchester United making headlines for their performances in the Champions League, beating PSG and then thrashing RB Leipzig this week. But they won't be helped by a positive coronavirus test which will keep out new signing Alex Telles, the full-back only managing one appearance so far for United since his move from Porto. "Alex won’t be ready, no, so apart from that I would think everyone else looks like they could be involved," Solskjaer said in his pre-match press conference. The United boss recently said on MUTV: "Yeah he's been out now for a little while because he has tested positive for coronavirus. No symptoms, he's fine and we can't wait to have him back." Solskajer also confirmed the latest on goalkeeper Sergio Romero and defender Phil Jones, who are both working their way back from long-term setbacks. Conor Coady

#PremierLeagueStories: #MarkLawrenson tells #JurgenKlopp to pay ‘big money’ for Wolves captain #ConorCoady #WWFC #WolvesFC

Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson believes Wolves captain Conor Coady is a 'ready-made' replacement for Virgil van Dijk. The Premier League champions will be without star defender van Dijk for the foreseeable future after he suffered a serious knee injury in the 2-2 draw with Everton. A number of players have been suggested as possible replacements for van Dijk, including Coady, and Lawrenson believes Wolves' ever-present skipper is a good shout. "I would think Virgil will be out for the season," Lawrenson told the Argus. "I think it’s a write-off because you’ve got to get match fit and that’s almost impossible nowadays because they don’t play reserve team football. Video Loading Video Unavailable Click to play Tap to play The video will auto-play soon8Cancel "If Liverpool are going to pay big money for somebody in January, they want absolutely ready-made. Conor Coady has had loads of shouts and he is a very good organiser who has played lots of games in the Premier League." Coady, who is a lifelong Liverpool fan and came through their academy, will always have a soft spot for the Reds but he delighted Wolves supporters with his response to a wind up from Jamie Carragher recently. Speaking to Coady after Wolves had beaten Leeds last week, a straight-faced Carragher said: “Obviously you won’t be aware as you’re playing tonight but Jurgen Klopp has had his Champions League press conference and he’s mentioned you and two other players who could be a replacement for Virgil van Dijk. Would that come into your thinking?” Carragher was of course joking but Coady wasn’t to know and laughed it off live on Sky Sports. We’ve just beat Leeds in an amazing game - so no!” But the connection is likely to keep being made with Coady now a full England international and playing some of the best football of his career. What's important for Wolves is that Coady has only recently committed his long-term future to the club by signing a new five-year contract.
Nuno Espirito Santo

#PLStories – #NunoEspiritoSanto believes it was not the wall but mistake and missed chances that costed Wolves points against Newcastle United #NUFC #WolvesFC

Nuno Espirito Santo has lamented the set-up of the Wolverhampton Wanderers wall which allowed Jacob Murphy to net a last-gasp equaliser for Newcastle United. It looked as though Raul Jimenez’s stunning strike was going to give Wolves a third successive 1-0 win but Murphy squeezed a free-kick past Rui Patricio in the 89th minute to steal a point. Patricio will be disappointed with the goal having got a hand to Murphy’s strike, but Nuno’s main gripe afterwards was with those in the wall. “If it goes over the wall then we have to deal with that, but it cannot go that side of the goal,” said Nuno. “We made a mistake with the set-up of the wall and we conceded.” Video Loading Video Unavailable Click to play Tap to play The video will auto-play soon8Cancel Wolves missed other chances before Jimenez opened the scoring with Pedro Neto and Daniel Podence going close. But their inability to kill off a Newcastle team which created very little of their own cost them in the end. “We were patient,” Nuno added. “We played well with the ball, moved them and were able to break them many times. “All the game we were in control, managing well and always being very organised. We had good spells of possession and good moments in the second half. “It was a good goal but it’s disappointing because we made a mistake in the final moments of the game that punishes us a lot.” Read More Related Articles Read More Related Articles For the second game in a row summer signing Vitinha was omitted from the 18-man squad. The Portuguese midfielder travelled to the ground with the team but didn't make the cut. Nuno suggested post-match that it was purely a selection decision rather than an injury to the 20-year-old. "Joao (Moutinho) played last game, he played very well., and today we decided to start with Ruben (Neves). I think it’s good for us that we have two quality players to choose from."
Mesut Ozil Arsenal

#PLStories – #CarltonCole believes #MesutOzil should come to West Ham and feel loved again #WHUFC #ArsenalFC

Carlton Cole says he would love to see Mesut Ozil at West Ham. The Arsenal outcast looks set to leave the Emirates within the next 12 months having been excluded from both the Gunners' Premier League and Europa League squad. Ozil's contract is up at the end of the season and this week he issued a statement hitting out at the club's perceived lack of loyalty after he opted to sign a new contract at the Emirates. Former Hammers striker Cole says he thinks Ozil should undoubtedly have a role at Arsenal and questioned how he was unable to even make their 25-man Premier League squad. Cole told talkSPORT: "I think he knows why he's not playing but he's got to play to the press as well. "It's all PR as well, you've got to understand that. "There's a reason why he's not in that team or even close to it because it's Mesut Ozil - you'd put him in a 25-man squad, come on. When asked if he'd take Ozil at West Ham, Cole added: "Of course, of course. West Ham have always liked those kind of players, those magician-like players. Ozil was once again a source of attention during the Gunners' Europa League tie with Rapid Vienna. Pre-match, the attacking midfielder urged his team on with a post on Twitter. He said: "When I can't support on the pitch tonight, I will support in front of the TV in London. "What are your predictions for the match? I go for a 4-1 away victory." #PLStories – #AinsleyMaitlandNiles shares reason for staying and fighting for place at Arsenal #ArsenalFC

Arsenal star Ainsley Maitland-Niles has been discussing his decision to stay at Arsenal. The England international was linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium before the transfer window shut earlier this month with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Premier League rivals Manchester United both linked. Brighton and Hove Albion have also been credited with an interest in the 23 year-old, who has made two starts in the Premier League so far this season. Maitland-Niles has revealed how talks with Arteta convinced him to remain in North London beyond the ending of the transfer window. The 23 year-old was in and out of Arsenal's starting XI under Unai Emery and then Arteta last season but has began the season in fine form and handed an England debut for his hard work. In the end Wolves moved for Barcelona's Nelson Semedo. "There was a lot of speculation going around about that," he replied when asked if there was a chance he could have left. "But ultimately I chose to stay at the club, which I love. I am happy with my decision and I am sure the manager is happy that I stayed as well.
