Kylian Mbappe’s fitness remains a topic of concern as Real Madrid prepares for their upcoming match against Manchester City. The Frenchman, who last played in a defeat to Osasuna in February, has been absent from the last three games due to a knee injury. Although he was seen participating in a training session on Tuesday, it is still uncertain if he will be fit enough to face Chelsea. Real Madrid’s manager, Ernesto Valverde, has hinted that the team might have to proceed without their star player.
Valverde said: “Mbappe is a very important player for us, but right now we are preparing for the match and focusing on what we have worked on these days and ensuring that the player who plays gives their best. We need everyone in this type of match. It is very important that we all give one hundred per cent in both defence and attack to achieve a good result for the return leg.”
Mbappe’s absence could be a significant blow for Real Madrid, especially considering his previous performance against Manchester City, where he scored a hat-trick. However, Real Madrid was defeated by Chelsea in their last Champions League encounter in December. Valverde emphasized the team’s motivation and readiness to face Chelsea, aiming to overturn their previous loss.
Valverde added: “We approach the match with great excitement and motivation. The match we played this season at the Bernabeu, we were doing a great job until they turned the game around. After that, we did not play a proper game; I think they dominated us once they were ahead. We have worked a lot these days, especially on offense. We need to know what each player has to do. We have also worked defensively to stay united, which is essential. Many times this year, we have not had all eleven players defending. At this moment, we are fine and know what we have to do, focused. These matches are tough, and we need to be physically and, above all, mentally prepared.”
The uncertainty surrounding Mbappe’s participation adds an extra layer of intrigue to the upcoming clash. Real Madrid will need to rely on their squad depth and tactical preparation to secure a favorable result against Manchester City. Valverde’s comments suggest a strong focus on teamwork and strategic planning, as the team aims to deliver a robust performance in both defense and attack. As the match approaches, all eyes will be on Real Madrid’s lineup and whether Mbappe will make a return to the pitch.
