Mikel Arteta Arsenal
Arsenal is gearing up for a busy schedule with upcoming matches against Everton and Bayer Leverkusen. The Gunners are keen to have their full squad available, but injuries remain a concern. Riccardo Calafiori has made a return to the squad, while Bukayo Saka’s condition was addressed by Mikel Arteta following their recent match in Germany. The club is closely monitoring the fitness of several key players, including Leandro Trossard and Mikel Merino, as they aim to strengthen their lineup for the challenges ahead.
Mikel Arteta said: “Both of them [Trossard and Calafiori], they had little niggles. And I knew that this could be a possibility, especially in the conditions that we’re playing today. However, he came off after an hour for Noni Madueke. Fortunately, there seemed to be no mention of a possible injury. The Gunners captain has started just two games in the last five weeks, with a knee issue plaguing him since the draw to Brentford. The execution of players need to be at a different level, and in many cases today it wasn’t.”
Arteta’s comments highlight the ongoing injury concerns for Arsenal, with both Trossard and Calafiori experiencing minor issues. Despite these setbacks, Calafiori was included in the squad against Leverkusen, indicating his recovery is on track. Trossard’s situation remains under observation, with hopes for his swift return to full fitness.
Mikel Arteta said: “Well, I think the doctors were really happy the way it went. Yeah, now it starts. Obviously, it’s a long process. You’re talking about bone healing, so you need to be patient. You respect the timings, and I’m sure Mikel is going to do everything that he possibly can to speed up the process. We’re talking about months, whether it’s three, four or five, we don’t know.”
Mikel Merino’s recovery from foot surgery is progressing, with Arteta emphasizing the importance of patience in the healing process. The midfielder is expected to be out until the latter part of the season, with a possible return in May. This timeline underscores the challenges Arsenal faces in managing player fitness during a demanding campaign.
Arsenal’s upcoming fixtures will test their squad depth, and the return of key players like Calafiori is a positive sign. However, the club must continue to navigate injury concerns carefully to maintain their competitive edge in both domestic and European competitions.
